Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

Holy crap why did I not buy a Dyson V6 cord free vacuum sooner (other than them being a bit of a ripoff when not in a sale)? It is the perfect accompaniment to a robot vacuum cleaner and almost ridiculously convenient.

PS: Xiaomi have released a new version of the Mi Robot that has a (passive) mopping function and improved software functionality... if you want to buy a new robot vacuum then this is the one to get.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

The Xiomi Roborock is now available in some online CH stores.

After reading the glowing reviews here I just ordered the 2nd gen version from Galaxus (CH guarantee and no customs hassle) for CHF 499 (they say 30% off).

That's a great price, considering that Gearbest in China sells the Roborock S50 for around USD 450 (roughly the same in CHF) including (slow) delivery and the risk of being hit with CH taxes.

Did they actually deliver it or do they keep changing the expected delivery date?

The price has gone up to 549 CHF.

Couldn't agree more. We purchased our v6 in the US before we moved here, and followed with a robot vacuum upon arrrival...great combo!

That's good. I wondered whether they were really shipping direct from China but it looks like they're not.

Xiaomi have released a new version of the Mi Robot that has a (passive) mopping function and improved software functionality... if you want to buy a new robot vacuum then this is the one to get.
After having had one of these for a few months now, here's a summary:

Absolutely brilliant and far-exceeded expectations. I was pretty skeptical.

A quick review of functions:

Rugs - even quite deep ones: The vacuum (Xiaomi Roborock) climbs up onto these and gets them really clean.

Pets - Another reason we decided to get a robot vacuum was because of the inevitable cat hair after getting two cats. It copes with this brilliantly.
One of my cats ignores it completely. The other thinks it's a friendly animal and goes over to have a look when it speaks or starts moving.

Comparison with a normal vacuum: We have a Miele Cat and Dog and I think the Xiaomi performs better (it cleans to a specific standard but doing it by hand means you may miss bits or go over an area quickly). It's much quieter too.

Stairs/drops: It hasn't fallen down yet.

Areas you don't want cleaning: If there's a room you don't want cleaning at that moment (full of Lego, for example) but you want to leave the door open for kids/pets then you can lay a magnetic strip across the door way and the vacuum won't cross the strip.

Spares: You can buy spare filters/brushes at Ali Express for next to nothing. Buy a couple at least so you can wash them and always have a dry one in the vacuum.

Battery life: Never gone down to fifty percent yet let alone flat.

Mop function: Not tried it yet due to the rugs and to be honest, with kids and pets, floors really need mopping with detergent and not just water.

App etc: I've never used the smartphone app - it's not very good but have linked the vacuum into my Echo Dot and Home Automation system so I can start and stop it via voice and via a wall panel.
If the vacuum goes missing (it once got stuck under a low bed), you can ask Alexa "Where's the vacuum?" and the vacuum calls back "Hi, I'm over here."

Zoning: I've set this up with my home automation so I can press a 'kitchen' button on the wall panel (or ask Alexa) and it will go and clean the kitchen (or the entrance hall mat), for example.

Buy locally from Digitec/Galaxus to get a warranty and avoid customs/tax problems.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

Thinking of buying a robot vacuum as well.
Looking at the Roborock S5max or Roomba i7+ plus Brava Jet m6.
Roborock has mopping as well. So that works well.
Plan to buy from digitec because of the 05 year warranty.
Anyone concerned about data privacy issues with Roborock?

Who's Digital. Do you mean Digitec?

Data privacy didn't even cross my mind before you mentioned it (was not interested in those little machines in the past years though).
Thanks for the hint. Did some googling. Decided my personal answer is: Yes.

Sorry. Digitec. Fixed the typo.
Data privacy has been playing on my mind re. Roborock. All data will be hosted in china.
Not sure how much better Roomba is.
The best rated robo vacuum from a data privacy perspective seems to be a German company but can't find their cleaner in Switzerland.

Which German company? You could also buy it there, no?

I seriously wonder why this machine needs to be taking picture of the latest position of my chair ...... and my van Gogh .... and store them and store them somewhere outside itself. I also don't know why this machine needs to be online and film me, while I'm watching it or doing what ever while it does it's job.

They'll do anything, don't they.

You can use it without the app. If you don't care about room mapping and delayed starts - just press on and off it goes.
If you want it to prevent it from going into particular rooms when it is cleaning but you want to leave the door open (for pets, for example), you can get flat magnetic strips that you lay across the doorway.

I run mine from my home automation system so have all the features (and more) but without accessing the Chinese servers.
I can control it from Alexa, my PC, a tablet or a wall panel.

You probably need to be a bit technical in nature to do it but basically you are using the same signals that the Roborock uses between itself and the app between the home automation system and the Roborock.

There's a fair bit of work involved in getting it running so I suppose, although the end result is great, it's a bit of a hobby.

I'm using openHAB which is open-source running on a RaspberryPi.
