who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

after some feedback from anyone that has a robot vac and especially if you have an irobot roomba or any samsung models..

does the roomba still crash into things then move around the item or does it sense and avoid?

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

we have a roomba, it detects big things and avoids them, but things like chair legs etc it will hit, they have bumper sensors so shouldn't drag things around, unless they are too small or light to trigger the sensor.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

which models do you have? the chaotic cleaning pattern seems a bit odd !

i looked in interdiscount but found galaxus is a minimum 200chf cheaper for the mid to top end models.

they were upto 450chf cheaper than media markt for the top samsung!

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

What I'd like to know:

Do they actually clean the room though?

What's the biggest thing they will sweep up?

A pea?
A bit of cracker?
Neighbour's cat?

sorry for jumping into your thread, Rob!

And do they only do hardwood floors and tiles or can they vacuum carpets too?

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

think we have the 560, yes the pattern is very random, but if you set if off while you're at work it seems to clean the whole room.

A pea? - yes
A bit of cracker? - yes
Neighbour's cat? - not found one in its dustbin yet

We got it to clean up the vast amounts of hair our dog seems to shed all year, and it works great, I know people moan about its ability on carpeted floors, but all ours are hard floors.

they do carpets also, but dont expect the same results as a normal household vac.

I am looking to get 1 because :
  • we have a dusty apartment
  • basel is dusty
  • windows open 24/7
  • i have birds so constant feathers on the floor.
i think i could have stuffed a pillow with the feathers by now!

so a scoot around by the machine when i am at work will be great but of course it will still need a weekly vac with the proper machine

mm i have quite a few light items, ill see if the newer models only sense and avoid rather than bump and avoid

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

We have a Roomba not sure what model maybe the 700?? I couldn't live without it now!!! As mentioned above set it off on way out of door and come back to sparkly floors!! Ours lightly bumps into things. As to what it will pick up I have just retrieved a bouncy ball from ours! Great on carpets better than our old hoover. Ours is called Sniffy

I'm looking at one too, especially for under beds and furniture. We have dog hair in lots of places. Trying to figure out the best model. Lots of uncarpeted floors, a few area rugs.

I was always curious how well those work...

We have a rather cluttered apartment.

Do they often get "stuck" (e.g. on a shag rug or wedged in-between things on the floor, etc.?)

We have the Roomba 780. It picks up peas, sand, rice, corn and crumbs. It does our rug that's about 2cm off the floor and gets up and over cables and into the corners under the beds. It detects stairs - thankfully it didn't go down the stairs when I forgot and left the basement door open. It cleans randomly, doing some places more than once and then says it is done and doesn't get wedged or stuck, just finds a way out.

I don't know how I lived without it. I carry it from room to room, close the door and let it clean until it is done. Friends recommended it. The older models that family had kept breaking though.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

if you have the 780 you should have 2 "fences" this is for multiple rooms so u should need to carry it anywhere, unless its on different floor levels...... cant the 780 work out there is another room?

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

We have an LG model, which has a lower profile and is much quieter than a Roomba. It has sensors and cameras to detect objetcs and cleans remarkably efficiently. It should make its way back to the charging station when the battery is low, but occasionally gets lost/stuck and needs retrieving if in a far room. My wife loves it. Was pricey mind, at 799.-

We have 3 levels of living area and a corridor with open stairs - I don't want to risk it. It works better on a closed, square room.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

great post - and timing.

i've actually, just this hour, seen the IRobot Roomba 521 on sale for CHF 240.

i'm a bit of a gadget freak, but have been completely sceptical about letting one of these into my home to wreak havoc in my absence.

however, from what i'm reading, it sounds like they actually work!

this is housework utopia.

Judging from the posts above, the 521 is the old model, and so presumably not as good.

BUT...the later models have a rather more significant price tag....(upwards of CHF 500-600?).

so my question is: are the later models really worth the extra wonga?

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

funny you should ask, my facebook status today (which is rarely updated) is " I *heart* my roomba"

We have the 770. Got it here. It is listed at 387 CHF... It was my mother's day present

What I love is that it being so light and portable, my bedroom gets cleaned way more often than it did before (as does the playroom/basement). It fits under all our beds and is great! Also, it runs almost every day in the kitchen. And it is just fun! Also, it is nice having someone on my side to help combat the others whose job description apparently includes making messes as often as possible. But we haven't named it yet. But I do think of it as a "her"...

I will clean up around the floors so there isn't a lot of clutter for it to deal with.

BTW, I have let it run at the top of the stairs just to test and I have nearly tried to catch it every time it gets near the edge, but it really doesn't tumble! That means I can clean the upstairs hallway as well and just close all the bedroom doors so it doesn't get off track...I suppose I could set up my virtual wall at the top of the stairs but it isn't needed.

I have wondered about the Samsung one, does it vacuum in a pattern? I also looked at a Vileda one on amazon.de that is pretty cheap (140€ or so) but went with the roomba as they are more well known...
