11 year old boy flies to Rome, without passport

This should not have happened, but full marks to him I am sure he enjoyed his day trip!

I thought the whole idea about united Europe was the hassle/passport free travel

Yeah, but UK isn't part of Schengen anyway ;-)

Yes it is an odd one that, that if from EU you can use your photo-ID to gain access to UK, not necessarily a passport


The main problem with this child getting on the aircraft, seems to be Headcount was not counted correctly. That seems to be the final check, when the Steward/ess does a count at take-off, whether a child or adult the count was one out

Yes, you can use your ID card - however the problem was not the head-count, but the WHOLE security procedure .

Bad timing for such negative PR just at the start of one of the biggest security operations surrounding the Olympics.. a little wake-up call isn't such a bad thing sometimes though.

Kudos to the kid, that certainly was a day trip to remember..
