Its just much much easier, cheaper and safer to take all the guns off everyone, farmers can have shot guns, job done, most people (apart from the NRA nutjobs) are happy.
And hunters, ranchers, etc.?

shot guns or bows and arrows, then you'd need to be a proper hard core bastard to hunt

I hate to say it (and feel terrible dark saying it), but the program and administrative costs to implement and enforce gun laws to prevent 505 deaths in a country of 300 million, is not really worth it in the grand picture.

Is it only me who thinks the US isn't in any way a gun obssessed place but rather a place with a security/safety issues? I always feel that way anytime I am there...in fact people there fear guns more than in places where security/safety is better. In Europe, owning a gun isn't even a thing to talk about, but we do not expect random freaks to start taking their grief out on innocent people. More you restrict, more freaks you end up with? Prohibition never made any bozos quit drinking.

Yes, this absolutely.

It's also a country that has a long history of doing quick fixes that actually backfired and made the original problem worse. And a country that hates to enter into any long term commitment on anything (except the military) and thus doesn't have any strategies for solving complex problems but just goes for quick fixes, often inspired by populism rather than any deep understanding of the actual issue.

You think so? Aren't you exaggerating a tad? Look how much slimmer everybody got by watching Michelle Obama hoolahopping all over the TV! I wouldn't call it a quick fix nor populism. Or all these amazing stats on education, a degree isn't a quick fix. Everybody has a tertiary degree which makes them the smartest country in the world hence all problems gone. Health insurrance? Why need one when everyone plans to stay healthy for the longest time. Simples. No money? Live on credit. And everyone lives happily ever after. Except those freaks...

People focus on guns, as if restrictions were actually able to fix something out there. In the world where pretence of quality matters more than quality itself...restrictions will become the pretence itself.

I was being facetious, en cas où.

First, there was a shooting at an Alabama shopping mall. Then, cops said they shot and killed the triggerman.
Now, the police are saying they killed the wrong person, while the true gunman remains at large.

Bit of a blow for those people who claim armed citizens are the best way to reduce death tolls in such mass shootings.
Anybody with a gun in their hand becomes a police target

Where ( In any of the news articles concerning this shooting) is the description of the actual shooter? The one who is still at large, armed and dangerous, and willing to kill? Are there no cameras in the shopping mall? Nothing recorded on a phone? No witnesses?

For whatever reason ,the police or the media or both arent giving out the most important info, which could prevent another shooting.

And about the guy who was shot and killed- was he an accomplice to the shooting, or was he trying to be a vigilante and was shot while in the act of chasing after the real shooter?

Tom
Apparently more than one shooting per week by a toddler on average, half thereof with lethal consequences (not necessarily for the toddler).

That's definitely more than just a handful.

Plus of course an unknown but most probably non-zero number of shootings that weren't reported, e.g. because nobody was hurt.

We'll see how the language of the piece evolves. He was a 29 year old born in France, so it's 50/50 whether he's a terrorist or a lone wolf at this point.

Technically, terrorists aren't really civilians anymore (armed combatants etc.).
So you'd need a special rule to ban guns for terrorists, too.
;-)

While you're at it, also ban bank-robberies and snatching purses from old women.

Then we're safe. For the moment.
