Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

I laughed at the poor souls who chose to pay for priority boarding on EasyJet, and the idea is now appearing at many othe queues.
Is your time so precious, and are you so important that you can't wait the extra 5 minutes to get off the plane?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19712847

http://www.easyjet.com/en/fees_and_charges.htmlSpeedy Boarding
EasyJet have progressed to speedy boarding plus reserved seating.

Ryan Air are of course the leaders in extra charges, but they no longer fly from Switzerland,
http://www.ryanair.com/en/terms-and-...iorityboarding

I will continue to enjoy the "free for all" on seat selection: the excitement of being able to avoid the extremely fat passenger or the
young baby still appeals to me.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

I recently flew to Rome and got on second to last. The second row had a middle seat free and I made to go for it (knowing that a couple had sat window and aisle). They moved together and I got the aisle seat.

Priority seating isn't worth it. The funniest is when they let you get "on board" first, but what you're getting on board is a bus to the plane. You're then getting off the bus last. Hah. Simple pleasures

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

Let people decide. If its not worth it, nobody will pay for the service, and it will go away. However, based on the increasing amount of companies adding this service, it seems like it is pretty popular. If somebody else wants to pay for a privilege, and this keeps the price to me lower, or helps to keep me employed, etc, I am all for it.

You guys really don't get it.
It is not about getting in the plane earlier but about that magic feeling to pass a queue.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

I always make sure we board the lasts. There is no point to go in first and sit longer than necessary with 2 kids. Better to let them run around and spend as much energy as possible to have them quiet in the plane.

Doesn't make you get to where you're going any faster either. Even if you get on first you still have to wait for all the non-speedy boarders. never understood why people are stupid enough to pay for this, when it adds no value.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

I couldn't care less if I'm travelling alone. But if you are, say, a family of 5 who wants to sit together then there's hardly any chance if you're the last to board. Differing from easyjet, Ryanair afaik does not let families with small children board first.

I once got on and a woman sitting in the aisle said that the empty seat at the window was for her husband. I asked if there was anyone else with them and she said no. So I took the window seat and left him the middle. She wasn't happy (he wasn't that bothered. I think he'd have preferred if I'd taken both so he didn't have to sit with the old bag.)

We flew easyJet recently and they had a cordon on the bus so they could let Priority Boarder off first.

If only. You usually end up queueing longer 'cos they call you first and you have to squish up while they herd everyone else into the pen. PB would be better value if you could turn up later and they let you through.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

Never understood the need myself.

We all leave and arrive at same time. I am happily always the last on and one of the first off. People seem to like spending unnecessary time on a plane.

I like to get on, leave quickly, arrive and get off. I am virtually at the door waiting for it to open. Pisses me off those that block the aisle getting on or off the plane as the piss about with their belongings.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

mrs. and I usually pay for speedy boarding ... it's cheap enuf and it's especially useful if you show up a wee bit late ( which we usually do ).. .you just step on the plane... the trick is not to show up so late that all the other people have already got on.

tonight I'm flying BA and paid the extra 99chuffies to upgrade to business class .... I wonder how many free drinks I can pack away in the exec.lounge before I have to stagger to the plane

Time often is money. Priority boarding is not just about getting onto the plane first but it also enables you to by-pass the queue at check in, thus meaning you don't have to come to the airport quite as early. If I was on a tight connection, I could definitely see the advantage.

Just don't turn up when they call you. If you've done the flight before and know the airport you know how much time it needs. Don't give them significantly more than that. Works for me all the time. Cabin staff have got angry at me sometimes, but they can't force me to listen to their rants. I prefer some grumpiness to wasted time, and if they're going to call people up well ahead of time to make things easier for themselves at the expense of the customer, well they're asking for it.

Pfft. Tried that once and they told me I was too late for Speedy Boarding and I had to join the throng. I grumbled a bit, but tend not to make too much fuss with people who can offload you at a whim.

Book in online, take your bags to baggage drop! Why queue to 'check in'?

Did exactly this last month with Easyjet, Air France & Air Malta.

Re: Paying extra to get ahead of the queue

I would rather be sitting down watching movies or reading and waiting for everyone to board so I don't have to stand up for long amount of time in the speedy boarding and queue ahead of the next priority passangers.

Better to wait at the gates than to sit in the plane, and it's cheaper.

Bloody speedy boarding, it's not just the getting on the plane, they put more people on the speedy boarding check-in counters than the normal counters, deliberately inflating the wait time for others.
