apparently it was comparison with madeleine mccann.... given recent "police sensitivity" over facetoss posts i have suspicions it it really was "offensive"

Was it possibly something about "hide and seek" world record?

I don't feel there should be any legal repercussions, though I think it definitely merits a public outcry and shaming.
I should also mention that I don't know what was explicitly said, but it doesn't matter IMO. Unless I've misunderstood something, he posted this on his own private profile or one of his friends'. If this were a group page or something of the like within the public realm, however, then I wholly take back what I've said.

On Facebook.
You can bang on about free speech all you want or knock up the good old "yes but everything is comedy in a way" perhaps even "all jokes will offend someone" line which is a common one and it wont make any difference to my opinion.
If you have children then losing them like this is you worst nightmare as the Prime Minister said at the weekend and to then make fun of such situation is a dispicable act that has no place in society. | | | | | i dont find it offensive, bad taste yes, offensive no. Its a standard level of adult jokes these days..... they had better arrest every stand up comedian and issue interpol warrants for everyone else on this thread then.

I will admit the joke is in bad taste, but then again, the reason its funny is because its in bad taste (and I quite enjoy bad taste jokes). Charging the dude who put it up is a bit overboard though. But hey, in today's society its hard not to say something that will be taken in completely the wrong way, and upset some people. Just gotta learn how to pick your audience.

There's not much in between. Sure, you can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre, but if we're not careful, than we might see people arrested for posting tasteless jokes about Presidents and Prime Ministers....
...and THAT'S a scary thought.

If that was his post, I find it to be in bad taste and would be offended by it - but I don't think he deserves to be arrested and charged over it. I'd let him know, if it was "said" in a manner in which I saw it, but arresting and charging somebody? Ridiculous, especially when people who create hate pages (including racial hate pages) will often get away with being quietly asked to take the page down ... and put up a new one the next day, with the same content but a different name.
Also, on a related matter, I'm finding it hard to see how this guy will have any chance of a fair trial - whether or not he did it, how can any jury of his 'peers' not know all about the details of the case, or at least enough to seriously prejudice their opinion? If he is guilty, he should be convicted and serve the sentence - but this should be discovered in a fair trial, not thrown out in a media circus with "social media" sideshows.

Can I ask what you find funny about the joke ?

Do you think it could be the connotation that a paedophile had sexual intercourse with a five year old girl (before possibly murdering her) is offensive?

Can I ask what you find funny about the joke ? | | | | | Exactly, there is nothing funny about what this person said, in fact I wouldn't call it a joke.
What is wrong with people like this? Do they have no empathy or compassion?
