Baseball-anyone care?

Well, I am a big NYY fan and these playoffs are driving me nuts! And now Jeter is out-who is going to hit for them, I can't believe how poorly they are hitting as a team!?!

Anyone else out there paying attention to the playoffs from the other side of the pond?

Sorry, that does not compute in my English brain.

Re: Baseball-anyone care?

Hey, thanks for all your useful replies, maybe I should have been more specific and asked if any of my fellow country-people were interested. Of course, I can understand, if someone asked about rugby or cricket I would have the same reaction as I didn't grow up with it. But baseball has been considered a national pastime and all that.

Hey, how you manage that? Every time I try a (less than 10 character) reply I get told off by the forum my reply is too short. I have tried putting in spaces, but to no avail.

Sorry, here are some helpful translations.

NYY=New York Yankees
Jeter=Derek Jeter, their star shortstop (position between 2nd & 3rd base) & captain
Hit=hit the ball and get safely on base, without making an out...

HTH

Nah, probably more like responding to threads on the EF. But, I managed to do both at the same time, listen to the game and troll around on the forum. All at ungodly hours of the morning.

Re: Baseball-anyone care?

I'm a Brit and i follow it...split "loyalties" (probably too strong a word) between the Yankees and the Cubs, so not all of us are ignorant to the attractions of US sport (i was at Wrigley Field AND Soldier Field a couple of weeks ago!)

So.....why isn't A-Rod hitting now? Because he can't do the Lance Dance any longer?

You know, I'll root for the Cubs too. I just feel bad that they haven't won a World Series in over 100 years. Seeing the Cubs win one is on my bucket list.

The late, great Steve Goodman said it best:

MC, Chicagoan and Cubs fan, until my dying day.

Because he has always been great at hitting home runs in April etc when it doesn't matter. I have never been a fan of him, have been known to call him A-fraud, A-roid, etc... The only reason I was happy he came to the Yankees was to keep him away from the Red Sox. Had I known how pathetic he would be when it counts, I would have wished them his services Oh, and stopping the performance enhancing substances probably has something to do with it! Amazing how good the pitching is now in the Big Leagues, even in the American League...

And now no one for the Yanks are hitting. It is really amazing in a bad way (if you are a Yankee fan, plenty of haters out there too).

My husband (German) can't really stand baseball. It is ok if we are at a game live, watching it on TV is unbearable, and listening to them on the radio is about the most ridiculous thing he ever heard of

Re: Baseball-anyone care?

I'm in mourning because the D-Backs finished up the season at .500 by losing to the evil satan spawn from Denver.

They also traded their Short Stop to the A's for a new kid coming up. Maybe next year...
