Short-term studio/double room in London

Hi EFs

I have the following question: Together with my wife we would need to stay in London for around two weeks, next November -yeap, in some weeks-. We would like to stay in a small --affordable-- studio, or perhaps a double room for this period.

Does any of you have any hints on where to find them? Simply googling doesn't work: It is really hard to discern between scams and proper things. That is why I would welcome someone with direct experience.

Also, which prices should I expect to find? (Zones 1-2 are optimal, 3 is workable)

Thanks in advance,

Laureano

Re: Short-term studio/double room in London

Hi, I am a Londoner. Got the Zones requirement, but the thing is travelling from one part of London to another can take hours, if it is the wrong side of zone and transport connections are awkward.

Be helpful if you advised what part or parts of London is your business visiting friends or whatever. either the area name of the first 4 charactors of a postcode.

there are some parts that have holidays flatlets.

otherwise there are some long established Italian family run hotels around 'Russell Square' Piccadilly line of the tube, that have had friends stay in, said reasonable price, friendly etc

Re: Short-term studio/double room in London

There seem to be a growing number of people investing in London "holiday homes" and so renting out accommodation on a short-term basis to tourists. This can be a great way to see London as it usually much more cost effective than a hotel and you have the additional advantage to make you own meals if you wish.

Here are just a few of the sites available:

http://www.homeaway.co.uk/
http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/
http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/

The downside, of course, is there is no official classification system like hotels and so you have to rely a lot on other people's reviews and to an extent the level of engagement you with have the owner when making enquiries about availability and prices.

We did it ourselves when we were back in London for an extended time earlier this year, and were really pleased with the flexibility compared to a hotel and the fact it meant we could stay for a much longer period.

Cheapest accommodation will be in one of the many Youth Hostels (YHA). They have double private rooms, and of course cooking facilities too, which really cuts cost down.

Re: Short-term studio/double room in London

Thank you all, people. I was paying attention to your replies, and have been searching. I have to go shortly for three of four days, and also take a look in situ. Any idea where to search there?

Moggy's point is insightful. Yeap, you are right. We will have to go to the Wimbledon area, near the train. But it is true that from some areas it would be crazy.

I was checking the airbnb, ownersdirect, homeaway and holidaylettings.

Once again... many thanks.
