Not in the same league as tesso's moan, but still...

I am feeling slightly apprehensive about Christmas as I have a very special 'gift' for my parents this year: their first ever son-in-law.

I just hope they like him, cause I didn't keep the receipt.

Just tie a big red bow around his neck and he'll be fine.

(If not, I hope your parents' doghouse is heated and comfy.)

P.S. I have just frosted my first Christmas cookies and told myself I could only eat two. After the fifth one, I was dancing with the dog and typing this.

Mathnut. Please ignore this advice and ensure he is wearing more than just a red bow around his neck. I mean, I know the meaning of Red Neck, but this is taking it just too far.

Tesso, I do understand the feeling, but for other reasons. I still love Christmas but my new career means I will be working 7 days a week all December and I can't wait for the 25th, even just to be able to catch up with some sleep.

Re: The official Bah Humbug! thread

Delighted to find this old thread rejuvenated for THIS year.....!

This year I learned what Guetzli`s are. And that it is Traditional to make them, as Christmas is not Christmas without them..............and Sylvester is not Sylvester without them, and children should not grow up in Switzerland without learning how to make Guetzli`s.

After this lecture my swiss friend loaned me the cookery book, the cookie cutters (for those special shapes), and the wooden boards to lay all the cookies out on cause they have to sit for a night before baking ........and saves space in the kitchen.

....And I came home and learned that my kids and their kids do not eat Guetzli`s.... they are hard .... and they taste of nuts ..... (and they may be healthy, as opposed to things made with chocolate)

So, I will now return all the Guetzli paraphanalia ....... and rest until Christmas.

I merged it with the Bah Humbug thread because the sentiment was basically the same i.e. Christmas Sux (especially this year as it falls on a weekend and there are no days off in lieu.. BAH HUMBUG to the power 1000 )

Re: The official Bah Humbug! thread

OK I have the answer. Do nothing, absolutely nothing to celebrate Christmas.

Take a look at the Julian calender.

Next year decide to recognise the Orthodox Christian Church, they celebrate Christmas day next on 7th January 2011.

.

If I convert to Julianism on New Years day, does that mean I can have two Christmasses ? I've burnt out on Fawkesism...

Re: The official Bah Humbug! thread

The Greeks celebrate Christmas on the 25th December, so there's no escape to be made amongst them...

A Quantum of Solstice

I was thinking thnowy thoughts of all my cheerless chums here on this thad Yuletide thread, when I saw and snapped this cheeky chappy with his metaphorical meteorological message that even when there's snow on the soil, there can still be sunshine from the sky

From this thread, Christmas presents at work

Quote:

After having told again and again that I do not wish any gift from work collegues as there is honnestly no personally relationship between us, the circus of christmas continued. However, the message went across finally: Since I put my little gift in the bin in front of every body without opening it, I don't get anything anymore... People do pay attention when one uses the right language.
Respect!

Bah! Humbug!

Was just in OBI to get some things for this weekends BBQ (seeing as the weather is great at the moment, in Basel at least).

I was looking for just some basics, did they have any, no, not much , but they did have many many Christmas decorations.... that will come in handy for a September BBQ.

Merry Christmas. ..

bahh, humbuggg

This year I seem to be living up to my nickname... except for a couple of brief glimpses I've not really found the Christmas spirit as yet.
( perhaps because we will be spending Christmas back in the U.K. and havent done our usual level of decorating at home )

anyone else?

or "Christmas spirit" suggestions?
