Re: Snow's arrived - is that good or bad for you, and why?

Tyres changed last week - my main worry is that I am now driving a rear-wheel drive bus/van, so very little weight at the back, after years of driving a Disco 4... My experiences in the wet with the van do not bode well, but we shall see.

In general though, I love winter, because it means my ski holiday is coming soon!

Re: Snow's arrived - is that good or bad for you, and why?

Since I moved last year, I've dropped 100m, to just over 600, and sorry to report, but it's a bit like typical English snow - wet slushy mush, falling on wet, muddy ground.
Not very inviting, hoping it will get either colder or warmer, but hate this hovering at or just above freezing sleety stuff.

As I needed 4 new winter boots for the trusty steed, I delayed changing them, this year, until I placed my order last week. Had them fitted yesterday ...... impeccable timing as usual - just as well as the rears were fast becoming slicks.

Snow is in general bad for me. As anybody who has to walk some distance daily along untreated paths knows, it is at best awkward, and at it's worst damned dangerous when the snow has turned to sheet ice.

Nope, I'm no fan of snow.
I find proper snow not too slippy to walk on - slush or ice is worse.
Rubber straps with spikes are available and can quickly and easily slipped over shoes.

That's why we live at 750m - above the fog and with crisp fluffy snow. Much rather have it cold and crisp, with the whitest fluffiest snow - than be in grey fog with grey dirty slush

To Nicola and Nil - my youngest daughter lives in Tenerife, for the same reasons (although she is an excellent skiier) - but personally I love the big contrast between the seasons - 'proper' seasons are very important to me. I love them all, in their own way, and wouldn't like to skip any. The Summer would never be so wonderful if it didn't have winter as a contrast. Yin and Yang for harmony

Agree! But when you spend 6 months in cold and 4 of them with snow and the -10, -20, that's not just cool anymore.

Hehehe that' exactly what it is like here, and exactly why I love it Each to their own Which also means that when Spring comes, it is such a delight, and then Summer, and then Autumn - each so beautiful in their own way.

I am sitting inside with a hot drink, looking at big white fluffy snowflakes falling. I have just ordered some Christmas pressies on line, which has put me in a good mood!
To all those of you driving, drive safely!

I love snow, the more the better. Love to get storms of a foot or more (childhood memories) but have yet to experience that where we live in CH. Guess I will have to head back to the States for a proper blizzard.

Nooo no need, we get fabulous blizzards here in the Jura. Go to La Vallée de la Brévine, aka Little Siberia - with a record of -38.5C.

Isn't the Kokopeli from Arizona? Never experienced a blizzard in Arizona lol- but terrible hot sand storms at Montezuma's castle and Sedona

Re: Snow's arrived - is that good or bad for you, and why?

Snow is great, as long as there isn't too much of it so that it makes it hard to get around.
I love the sound it makes to walk in it, the way sounds are muffled, and how it makes the world look different, especially after dark when the orangey light of the street lamps reflects in the snow.

So where exactly is this snow you speak of, other than at the tops of tall mountains?

Right here in the Neuchatel Jura - plenty of it (not very tall mountains, we are at 750m).

A tad OT but to answer your question, Kokopelli comes from Native American tribes in the southwest U.S. He's a flute player (among other things) and that's why I like him.

Granted, but, as I have said before, we still have a full range of seasons in the Med, it is just that they are 15-20 degrees warmer than in CH!!

Normally ok with it, but I have yet to change my tyres. Booked in for tomorrow, when more snow is forecast. Will be an interesting drive to Bern in the morning .
Then take it real slow and careful okay. We had the same problem the first year we moved over here. Car booked in for tyre change on the Thursday and snow fell on the Tuesday. Poor hubby took an hour and a half to get from Marly back home with summer tyre spinning all the way. Couldn't get to work the next day either.

You be careful PaddyG and get there safe.

Must say I'd never have a rear drive vehicle around here - so stay safe Carlos too.

No, but I don't ski (since having torn the ligaments in both knees on previous skiing trips)
