Isn't it better to give lots of people just a little bit and so create opportunity for some of those to go forwards and build on that, rather than picking the winners beforehand.
What are your options?

You can sponsor kids to attend to go public school (as stated before the school itself is free but books/food/and so on is not) - but again you will be sending them to a school with 40-50 kids along with the problems previously stated. And most likely if family can choose it will be males that will be going and not girls.

If you dont pick some people that can get help then you will never get the 'normal' people to catch up with the rich. Rich will go to good school and the normal people will contrinue struggling in school. Unless you change it.

Sadly rich people dont tend to help others as much as they can. People who come from a normal background, get an opportunity, usually brings back a lot more (at least in my experience).

If for example you're concerned that there aren't enough teachers being trained, why not donate something to a teacher-training college to do something about it?
This school also does that. As written previously "The school is run as a project with the aim to not only introduce an active learning based methodology but to also train teachers. "

More importantly, this is an opportunity to help three individuals rather than saying "we could do this and that". This is 10 euros that could POTENTIALLY change some people lifes.

The OP is asking for donations, so it is legitimate to ask questions.
Absolutely, and this is why I am taking time to answer them as good as I can.

Would these three girls be less worthy of an education if they were ugly for example?

Any child that wants an education is beautiful. Hope that answers your question?

Sadly it has turned into that.

I believe I have said everything I have to say about the situation and hopefully addressed the concerns people had.

Now I will not answer anymore (at least try!) since it has taken a lot of my time and energy.

Obviously some people use the groan button over differing opinions and don't like people to ask tough questions. Maybe they have something to hide. Maybe they're just not good at PR. It certainly makes it easier to decide whether or not to support their causes.

But at least keep it to sensible questions. I have yet to see an ugly child.

People only turn ugly as adults, usually through attitude.

So now you've highlighted the real problem, how are you going to fix it? Or do you want to stick your head in the sand over that one too?

For sure you have the right not to donate, but give the guy a break. At least he is trying to solve something that means something to him.
I don't think it can be fixed until the African nations governments take responsiblity and stop being the corrupt barstewards that they are. Until then, I think it's pointless to give money.

If for example we're talking about famine, and you go to the famine area and select two or three people at random and fly them to a five star restaurant and dine them on caviar for a week ... and if somebody questions the wisdom of that, you reply with something like "those who don't like it are sticking their heads in the sand" or "it's better to help these couple of guys than to help no-one at all". Sorry, it's totally missing the point.

Isn't it better to give lots of people just a little bit and so create opportunity for some of those to go forwards and build on that, rather than picking the winners beforehand.

If for example you're concerned that there aren't enough teachers being trained, why not donate something to a teacher-training college to do something about it? If you're concerned about sexual abuse by teachers in state schools, there's something you can do about that too. And these things would benefit everybody.
I agree... what's the point (from someone not emotionally involved) in funding the three girls at such an expense for a year? Does that really achieve anything substantial vs training teachers or giving a basic education to more people?

Because maybe one of them will cure cancer, develop a new strain of wheat to feed her country or be so motivated by the generosity of a stranger in Switzerland that she commits to change the world

If 60% of the population can survive on 1 dollar a day, then a school costing 700 dollars sounds totally extravagant to me. Why should we sponsor an extravagent and elitist education for people we don't even know.
School fees at the American Embassy school in Gambia are $US9500 per year. Perhaps that is a better perspective to look at when considering how extravagent E700 is for a private school there. (presumably the Embassy is subsiding the salaries for American teachers.)

A quick google has shown E740 pa as the fee at one other random "International" school (presumably with staff being paid at "local" rates only.)

If Bill Gates walks into a pub, everybody in that pub is, on average, a multi-millionaire.

I like the Russian expression - "The average temperature of the people in the hospital is healthy" (ie count the wards and the mortuary and everything is, on average, ok)
