Let's rap: What's your favorite watch?

Doesn't have to be Swiss. Doesn't have to be realistic. Does have to be a real watch, however. Taking strolls down the Bahnhofstrasse here always finds me looking at the Pateks, Breguet, APs, but my favorite "dream watch" is currently the Urwerk 110ST. Its probably the most unique watch I've seen in awhile and I always have trouble keeping my eyes off it...

Thoughts, comments, etc. What's your favorite? Do you have just one?

Looks like something used to launch a Space Shuttle!

I`d have trouble just looking at it. Can it tell the time?

Actually, very well. The one pictured reads 8:16. With the dial oriented that way, one can read the time easily without even having to pull one's shirt cuff back. Now that's a feature worth their asking price...

Here`s my type of watch - that I can see without my glasses! With minutes clearly marked out, and nice big numbers.

I actually also like pocket watches, especially ones with a few complications and a nice fob & chain.

Aaaahhhhh yes, I see! Thanks for explaining.

I`ve got a watch (present from family, bless them, minus the instructions) that takes me about 2 minutes to decipher before I figure out where the hands are actually pointing, being 4 of them, plus 3 small dials that turn at different speeds, and an alarm that goes off every day at 12.03, with no idea how to turn it OFF permanently, except now I`ve found a slidey thing on one side that turns it off temporarily.
But if I`m desperate enough to want to know the time, at least I can figure that out eventually.

After further consideration, I've realized that this is a right-handed watch, as are most watches, so I'm going to sue the watch-making world for bigotry, racism, and discrimination against left-handed people like myself. Probably the only way I'll afford one of these...

Re: Let's rap: What's your favorite watch?

I like automatics, as I don't have to worry about winding or replacing batteries - currently have a Kinetic, which uses an auto-type winding weight mechanism to charge a small internal battery, and work like a standard quartz (Jap., I'm afraid)

I was told, though, that men shouldn't wear them on the dominant, strongest wrist, as they could be a danger of over-winding.

The funny thing is, that it is harder to find an auto with a good depth waterproof level, than a standard quartz type, where the back always needs to be removed to change the battery.

I actually also had that watch, and a blue Peanuts (Snoopy on his doghouse) watch as a kid.

I actually still own a Citizen EcoDrive, and I love how incredibly convenient the movement is... No winding or replacing batteries. I just wish the bracelet links were stronger; when I was in restaurants, I broke several links clipping the corners of tables in the kitchen as I passed by...

Re: Let's rap: What's your favorite watch?

I have a Citizen eco drive as well. Quartz, solar powered, water proof, lots of extra features that I never use. I never had a problem with the band, and I'm kinda rough on stuff like that.

I also have a cheap plastic Casio dive watch thats waterproof to 100 meters and has a 10 year battery. I think that I paid about $30.00 for it at Target in the US about 3-4 years ago. It looks hideous, but refuses to die...

I used to have a Casio digital that had a programmable TV/VCR IR remote... I used it to drive my teachers crazy in high school...

Looks like it`s meant to be worn on the left wrist, if you don`t have to pull your cuff back to see the time? Or do left-handed people wear their watch on the right wrist?

Most wristwatches are made to be worn on the left wrist. This is why the buttons and knobs are all on the right side as you're looking at the face. It makes them easier to operate with your right hand, and having the watch on your left wrist allows you to check the time (and possibly date) while writing with your right hand.

Most lefties, as with many things, just suck it up and buy a right-handed watch (worn on the left wrist) and either wear it on their left wrist (that's me) or wear it "backwards" on their right wrist.

I'm actually right-handed and wear my watch on the right hand, because it seems more natural to me. The whole notion of wearing a watch on the left wrist as a right-handed person is rather outdated and dates back to the time, when most watches had to be wound up.

The buttons on the side don't dig into your forearm? I tried wearing a watch on my right hand for awhile, but the buttons just got in the way for me.

Currently wearing a Tissot, similar to this one. Pretty sizable knob on the side to keep the watch watertight. Gets in the way now and again...
