You have to love them

I've seen a couple of reports in the news lately about people who have been building the Ark again and you have to love the crazieness of it all.

One is, unsurprisingly, a retired American pastor and the other is Dutch. The American has taken 40 years and spent $3 million and it's still not finished, the Dutchman has taken only 20 and actually built two, a small scale and full size version, but I haven't found any cost figures for his efforts.

The American obviously expects the floods to come again, but I think he needs to re-read the relevant chapters as the Dutchman rightly points out the Bible says God sent the rainbow as proof that he will never flood the world again. Just as well, given that it doesn't sound as if the Dutchman's boat is seaworthy. There's talk of taking it across the Atlantic, but it would need to be transported on a bigger boat!

With all the problems the world has, you'd think they could find more practical and less costly ways to express their faith.

I think that regardless of your faith, it would be cool to build an ark to the specifications called out in Genesis, or even just computer model it or whatever, and determine it's seaworthiness characteristics.

BTW, as a Christian, I've got to side with the Dutch guy...

Re: You have to love them

here is the said waste of space, time, material & money, right opposite my work...this guy seriously had too much time on his hands. He built 2!
The local authorities say he has to move it, I've no idea where? I suppose straight down would suffice.

Re: You have to love them

It would be interesting to compare their dimensions, given that both are based on the instructions given in the Bible. Are they actually more or less the same size or is there a big difference?

Re: You have to love them

More than likely that they will end up trying to sell "one ark, hardly used" right here on EF at close to new list price.

This will followed by a flood (!) of posters haggling down the price because of better pricing in Germany and Zebra poop messing up the carpets.

Man, have you EVER tried to get Zebra poop out of your carpet? I mean, if there were Zebra poop, it's never coming out!

I went to a Symantec/Norton event in the Ark back in 1992 or so. I think it was just finished then, it was empty.
