He was always way ahead of his time - obviously taking a well earned break, to wait for the rest of the world to catch up.

Re: Thunderbirds are go

Definitely well ahead of its time. Compare the Thunderbird 2 pod machines from 1964 and the new lifeboat launch and recovery system currently undergoing trials in the UK

I think it is very likely that the designers of this for the RNLI were Thunderbirds fans

Shouldn't the thread title read "Thunderbirds are gone"?

Awww PaddyG, you have just crushed my childhood dreams in a sea of tears.
I wish I was a spaceman, the fastest guy alive, I would fly you through the universe in Fireball XL5.

Re: Thunderbirds are go

Real shame he didn't get more recognition for his work. An unsung British hero as was Derek Meddings.

That is true, is it just me or does the angel inteceptor look like a Eurofighter.

As I said, so far ahead of his time. Was it psychic powers, inside knowledge or just good guesses?

Re: Thunderbirds are go

Loved all that stuff he put out. Eagle Transporters from Space 1999 were very cool, the C-17 of the day. Stingray was pretty poorly filmed, I think that Joe 90 was about the last puppet series before the plot was well and truly lost.

FAB

The Eagles are without a shadow of a doubt the most iconic spaceship around. Thing is, they could be real if history had been a tad different.

Re: Thunderbirds are go

I watched Thunderbirds as a child and had a crush on Scott Tracy! He was a good looking guy though .

RIP Gerry Anderson.
