FFS, Yorkshire police are now looking into what happened. Perhaps they should concentrate on preventing children getting groomed and raped.

Nah. They - like the BBC - are more concerned about `fracas` between adults.

Clearly, Clarkson should have abused some kids instead since it looks like that is less of a crime in the eyes of the BBC brass.
Sounds like something Chris Huhn would have said.... 'Now look here officer, why don't you go and solve some crimes instead of pulling over and harassing decent, law abiding folk '

It was a heat of the moment scuffle that lasted 30 seconds. What is there to investigate? The facts are known. Meanwhile kids are being groomed all across Yorkshire and nothing has been done.

Meanwhile "3 scruffy middle-aged men cocking about" is scheduled to appear on Sunday evening on ITV @ 8pm.
I was thinking Sky. But as you suggest, the show will go on, with a new title, on a different channel, with the presenters getting paid twice as much and given a little more freedom to do even more crazy s#!*.

The BBC article says that:

Quote:
It found that Mr Tymon took himself to hospital after he was subject to an "unprovoked physical and verbal attack".
"During the physical attack Oisin Tymon was struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip. The verbal abuse was sustained over a longer period, both at the time of the physical attack and subsequently."

Unprovoked?????

The serving stock failed to give Sir Clarkson hot food. The impertinent fool deserved a good beating.

With sustained verbal abuse (20 minutes long according to the Telegraph article) and was only stopped by the intervention of a witness to the incident.

Very glad the BBC have stood firm and not renewed his contract. Nor let the commercial considerations govern their decision. Any other channel would have backed down, guaranteed, afraid of all the revenue sales they'd lose.

If Top Gear ultimately fails, well it's had a good run having been around long before the current 3 joined up. It was getting more and more tired, trite and totally irrelevant as a car review show anyway.

Doubly so if Clarkson, May and Hammond do end up doing a car show with another channel.
Which channel IMHO will lack the guts to invest as much money as somehow the trio managed to persuade the BBC to do. The road taken by fifth gear and the other mee-too similar shows, that is less money, less quality (which was already suffering BTW), less viewers, etc... is far too obvious, with Clarkson or not

It stopped being a "car review" show when it was reinvented by Clarkson and Andy Wilman - with plenty of the intellignet scripted stuff coming from Richard Porter - of Evo and SniffPetrol fame.

Since 2002 it has been about middle-aged men driving fast cars, have outrageous opinions and generally cocking about. And for the 300m people who watch the programme it is a formula that works.

The original Top Gear barely mustered 300,000 viewers when it was cancelled - and 5th Gear isn't exactly a ratings success.

If you watch "car" programmes from anywhere else they are dull. Derek and Trevor sat in the pub discussing the merits of a Primera or Accord is all very well - but it makes bloody dull television. Have you seen any Swiss car programmes? The German ones?

Nope - me neither!

(Not strictly true the German ones are really dull, and SRF are trying their best to make Tacho more interesting).

Which deserves a police investigation? Holy Christ.

I'm not sorry for Clarkson, he's a multimillionaire that will walk into another job and deserves to get fired for what he did. I'm more sorry for myself. I don't watch much TV, and when you look at what's on offer it's not hard to see why, but Top Gear that I did tune into and enjoy. Now it'll never be the same even if they re-brand it or the current presenters turn up on another channel.

Let's see: verbal abuse followed by a punch which did hit Mr Tymon = assault as far as I recall under UK law. So yes, the police are quite right to ask to see the file to see if there are any charges to lay.

No. It's up to the producer if he want's to press charges. Until he makes a complaint the police have no business getting involved.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

I'm not going to get into right and wrong here.

However, people don't watch top gear for top gear. They watch it for Clarkson and the shows irreverent and unPC content.

His fans will simply follow him to his next gig - and you can bet that the other broadcasters are now queuing up to get him signed.

The BBC can continue to produce top gear, but its following will be severely diminished.

Nevermind the police, but why on earth does the whole world, including the PM need to comment on this? This a celeb gone wrong and the PM needs to comment. Shouldn't he be running the country or something?!?
