The number of people delighted by this news is a wonderful illustration of everything that is wrong with modern Britain. He expresses his libertarian/right wing opinions which are taboo but his far greater crime to many is that he's very very successful.

Nevermind that he makes millions for the BBC, and that his TV show is the most watched factual show in the world. He's intelligent, good at his job and extremely wealthy, which to many means we should never have to see or hear from him again.
Like the thousands of people who have also signed a online petition to have him reinstated.

I don't know why Mr Clarkson excites such strong opinions. I mean, I'm not particularly fond of the chap - he's just a mildly irritating television presenter like any other - but I've got one of these:

Don't all televisions come with these nowadays?
A smart watch AND a remote control DB? You really are leaping into the 21st century, aren't you?

I would tend to agree, except that he once thumped Piers Morgan. I think that allows us to forgive him almost anything.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

well if the beeb do fire him it won't make any difference, there will be a bidding war with C5 and Sky for the whole team to move, new name but same stuff. They ermm 'borrow' all there ideas from a popular motoring forum anyway.

Indeed, they should fire the producer and keep Clarkson.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

ok a scoop for you all you read it here first, from someone 'in the know'

Clarkson : Arrived 3 hours late to a hotel in Yorkshire. Chef had left clarkson was drunk and had a row with the director (not producer like they say) over it and lashed out verbally. No fists were thrown .
It's the end for clarkson I imagine but they're trying to get may and Hammond to agree to do it alone till end of season

Shouldn't be a problem unless they want to cut their own throats. I seriously doubt there's anything in their contracts that says all 3 of them have to present the show. If the Beeb decide to do the last 2/3 without Clarkson they're under contract to present them regardless.

So Clarkson not only arrived late, but had been drink driving as well. Definitely grounds for dismissal.

I think he means he got drunk at the hotel, not he was drink driving

Re: Top Gear: 2013

Well, reading the Daily Mirror article it seems as if they'd just returned from a long day's filming so he either got drunk at the hotel very quickly or was already so when he arrived. Which doesn't explain how he could be 3 hours late as you suggest bigblue2. I doubt he was hanging around the filming area - unless there was a pub nearby. So still don't know exactly what happened.

Everyone should wait until this has been investigated and the facts disclosed. Then decide whether to sign a petition to reinstate him if appropriate

Re: Top Gear: 2013

Negotiations over renewing their contracts are also suspended while they decide what to do according to the Mirror article. 3 year deals so Beeb really have to decide whether it's worth continuing to put up with Clarkson's nonsense or not.

The BBC have to decide if they want to put up with an internationally incredibly popular car show or not more like it.

Top gear isn't top gear without Clarkson and the BBC know that.
