Oh, come on! Yes, I don't like the guy, but if I was an employer and any employee went around throwing punches and then slagged me off in front of an audience I'd sack them. Obviously, you see nothing wrong with his behaviour.
I don't know what his behaviour is. Neither do you or the guardian. Just conjecture.

I don't want him gone because I enjoy watching top gear. I don't care what he does outside of the program as long as I'm entertained.

The video/reports of him slagging off the BBC are not conjecture, they're fact. And takes him well over his "final warning" limit all on its own, never mind the other incident we've yet to hear the verdict on.

Yes because people don't slag off their employers ALL the time. He's just in the public so everyone finds out about it.

I really don't get the 'I hate Clakrson' Brigade. If you don't like him stop reading articles about him and watching his TV programs and watching youtube videos with him in them. Obviously a LOT of people do enjoy his material which is why he's so insanely popular.

I'm glad the BBC have Medea Fleecestealer to keep a count of his warning limits

Re: Top Gear: 2013

What about this theory?

Clarkson's contract was up for renewal in a few days anyway and it was pretty certain that the BBC wouldn't renew it as he has become too controversial.

Rather than go quietly, he decided to leave in a blaze of publicity so that he can announce his next career move in a few days and get the maximum exposure.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

My thoughts entirely- I hope it backfires on him (but sadly I don't think that will happen)- quite sure that was all pre-meditated.

I wish the Beep would get on with it- why it is taking so long to get the evidence? Either he hit the guy or he didnt'. But whatever the exact facts- this didn't happen in his private life anyhow but when employed by the BBC on set after filming.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

I never slagged off any employer when I was working, but then I would have considered it unprofessional to do so in private or public. They never warranted it in the first place btw and one of them was the Beeb.

PS - that's why I can keep count of his warning limits.

Deep Purple I'll take your theory even further. All 3 of them have new deals lined up so the whole thing at the hotel was staged to give them an excuse not to sign new contracts.

Odile the report on the incident has only been handed over to the director general yesterday or today I think. He'll make his decision next week. It'll be interesting to know what May said in the way of evidence, when the story first came out he said he wasn't even there!

Let's just gloss over the £100,000 he raised for charity in the process.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

I'm a bit confused over why a bunch of people who neither watch the programme nor contribute a penny to the BBC have such strong opinions on the subject.

If you are one of these people, what's it to you whether Mr Clarkson remains on Top Gear or not?

Re: Top Gear: 2013

Clarkson can be as politically incorrect, oafish and right-wing as he likes. However once he crosses the line to common assault then there have to be consequences. Regardless of whether or not I find him entertaining, getting drunk as a lord and then belting some program minion because your dinner isn't ready is quite frankly disgraceful behaviour.

And even then, no contrition after the event, just more snide abuse at the BBC for having the audacity to take the matter seriously. Perhaps he really should take his show to 'Dave' or 'Men and Motors', because he's clearly too edgy for the venerable Beeb.

I suppose it's possible that one doesn't watch Top Gear and doesn't contribute to the BBC purely because Jeremy Clarkson is on it and one can't stand the man.

Then one could be interested.

I last watched Top Gear when Quentin Wilson was on it and they actually reviewed mainstream cars but Angela Rippon was a bit before my time.

I'm not a Jihadist, nor am I Syrian but I'm still interested in the news.

All those were done as part of the programme- not in his private life (just a short list here, there are of course many more). Didn't think that racism was on your list of acceptables, but hey ho, as long as you are 'entertained:

Mr. Clarkson has, variously:

crashed a pickup into a tree to test the truck’s strength, damaging both;

been accused of despoiling Botswana’s pristine Makgadikgadi salt pans by driving across them;

been chased out of Argentina by an angry crowd after touring in a car with the registration plate H982 FKL, supposedly a provocative reference to the 1982 Falklands War;

driven around an Indian slum in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet “because everyone who comes here gets the trots” (a British colloquialism for diarrhea);

caused outrage by giving the Nazi salute in a segment about German cars;

and sung the nursery rhyme “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,” appearing to include the line “Catch a nigger by the toe”

DB- what do you mean we don't pay for the Beeb- I certainly pay my TV Licence in the UK, just as I have done since 1971 (we didnt' have tv before that).

Why we 'care' - because he is a 'rôle model' for many kids, including my grand-children, nieces and nephews... just like a footballer, or pop star- and as such, he should not be seen to get away with the above, and with assault (if and when proven- although it seems there is little doubt).

He has to be one of the more entertaining presenters on TV. It will be a real shame if the show stops because of this as the show certainly is vastly better viewing then some of the trashy reality shows that are pushed.

Gosh you are a easily offended person aren't you.

You didn't even mention the slope one which IMO was the 'worst'. I did learn a new racial slur that day though

Slope? ..... worst?

You're easily offended.

Good job, none of you were at school with me, then - the funniest playground jokes were those based on race or those less fortunate.

That's why I like Clarkson, because we grew up in the same times, when the only PC was the one on a bike who clipped you round the ear for scrumping apples.

Many of these things have been over-hyped (possibly on purpose). Do you really think Clarkson is a rôle model for kids? He's not a cool guy - he's just a clown - very entertaining, but not someone any kid would want to emulate, surely? We should give kids more credit for how discerning they are in choosing their rôle models.

I remember those days well, when the newcomers, Italian, Hungarian, poor kids sent out after the Frejus disaster, circus or Gipsy children sent to the school for a few days or weeks, anyone who was disabled or 'challenged' in any way, the poor too- were mocked, spat on, hair pulled and worse. I remember teachers humiliating kids in the most disgustint of ways. I did not suffer from any of those things, I was always on the 'winning' side- but I remember the shame to this day. Which 'side' were you on Timow?

Jern, fair point, one can but hope. But if he did hit the guy- and gets away with it and continues to earn millions and do the same... are you sure a message would not get through that if you are a 'star' you can just do what you want? Can football players rape, bite, hit the ref- and get away with it because they are brilliant footballers? I think most would say no.

Offended, well no, I am not offended, why should I be- none of the above applies to me.

I suspect the BBC producer is a bigger Xanker than Clarkson, not providing food & drink on a shoot is a regular occurrence, shoot days are often 16 hours, my longest shoot day ever being 49 hours, which was for the BBC in 1991. They apologised the next day as they did not have the money to pay overtime & would only pay for a 12 hour day.

Right, because there are actual, real people who deny themselves the entirety of a particular broadcaster's output just because of one man.

Mmm-hmmmm....
