If you own property in the UK, that you visit regularly and with a TV available, you have to pay- even if you are there just a few weeks a year. Simple.
LOL, I never had you down as an absentee landlord!

Well, I learn something new every day.

Other channels are making the most of the lack of Top Gear on BBC. Dave are showing some of the Top Gear specials and advertising the fact that it is the only place you can watch Top Gear on a Sunday. The History Channel are also making the most of the fact that they are showing Fifth Gear

One exception is; if you are refurbishing the property and it is empty you have six months grace, no council tax to be paid either.

Jern, fair point, one can but hope. But if he did hit the guy- and gets away with it and continues to earn millions and do the same... are you sure a message would not get through that if you are a 'star' you can just do what you want? Can football players rape, bite, hit the ref- and get away with it because they are brilliant footballers? I think most would say no.
Exactly. No special treatment. He should be treated with the same contempt as any other wazzock who gets too big for his boots. But we don't need to hide him away from the kids - let them learn how a person can be clever, entertaining, arrogant, violent and a bully - all at the same time. We don't do children any favours by trying to paint people or behaviours as good and bad.

I remember those days well, when the newcomers, Italian, Hungarian, poor kids sent out after the Frejus disaster, circus or Gipsy children sent to the school for a few days or weeks, anyone who was disabled or 'challenged' in any way, the poor too- were mocked, spat on, hair pulled and worse. I remember teachers humiliating kids in the most disgustint of ways. I did not suffer from any of those things, I was always on the 'winning' side- but I remember the shame to this day. Which 'side' were you on Timow?
I was referring to generic jokes, not the abuse of actual individuals - anything was fair game back in the day, but is now considered non-PC, today, by the bleeding heart liberals ..... basically most of the things that JC has uttered and been slated for.
Me? - I always had a little nostalgic chuckle, after one of his faux pas.

Ahh those Aldermaston lesbians again (lol)...

Thing is the jokes and the abuse were pretty close then- and in fact one and the same in so many instances. Do you not watch the news recently?

Plenty of non PC stuff and jokes with family and friends, of course- but JC should be old enough to make the difference between public and private- which is what most people are able to do.

Not at all - the opposite in fact.

As a 10 year old, I never knew any girls from Biafra or Ethiopia, but apparently there were ways that (hypothetically) Diptera-aided artificial insemination could cause pregnancy; or people with leg callipers were subject to possible injury (even fatal) if they walked too close to places where magnets were produced - were found to be funny by kids in the playground.

We all blame Jeremy but who is that broadcasts the show? The BBC so they actually also like the crazy stuff and condone it

Re: Top Gear: 2013

Storm in a teacup. Jeremy is an intelligent provocative guy who makes jokes that are very self aware, rather than malicious. That may not make him a friend to everybody but it does leave him open to criticism from those who are holier than thou.

He may well have crossed the mark with whatever happened in the argument with the producer, but he is also tainted by those previous remarks and jokes.

I'll be sad to see him go.

Let's just gloss over the £100,000 he raised for charity in the process.
Oh, of course! His swearing and slagging off his bosses in public in front of hundreds is okay then.

The live shows in Norway scheduled for this weekend have now been postponed.

I'm sure any boss without an inferiority complex would be happy to be slagged off for 100k in charity.

Yeah, why not? They are an entertainment company. If they allow, nay encourage, their employees to criticise other people, but get uppity when it's them, then that is hypocrisy at its worst (Though, to be fair to them, have any BBC executives complained, or are you getting offended on their behalf?)

It it would appear by all accounts that he is also someone who committed common assault in the workplace and there is no excuse for that. This is not the first time his loutish behaviour has caused problems and I don't see any reason that his colleagues or employer should have to put up with it, especially when it as got to the point that it has become physical.

Re: Top Gear: 2013

The Telegraph is reporting that they expect Jeremy Clarkson to be sacked today, with Chris Evans is being lined up to replace him.

I wonder if this could have wider implications for Auntie. Over 1 million people signed that petition after all. Grumblings have been ongoing for a while regarding the fairness of the licence fee. The fallout from this either way is going to be interesting.

Despite the fact, that Chris Evans, on his radio show, has categorically insisted, over a week ago, that he didn't know where this rumour came from, and definitely wasn't in the offing.
