Celebrating Valentine's Day .. or not

Hello ladies and gents ,
This month it happens to be my former most desirable event .
But now , it will be the first year I am spending Valentine's Day alone , divorced and pathetic . It will be also my first Valentine's Day in Switzerland .
So , any tips ?

Nup, never have, dont see the need its a marketing scam for something that should happen every day, why does there need to be a special day when you get ripped off on flowers and cards

Bah ..... humbug - Valentine's Day is just for singles. Once you're married ..........

It could be worse, you could be spending Valentine's day like Penny and Sheldon, sick, and not in Switzerland!

Don't think of it as pathetic, rather think of it as an opportunity to do all the things you couldn't do before. Your definately not pathetic just because your divorsed and on your own !

Me, I will treat my self to a nice piece of fillet steak and have a cracking glass of wine with it. Feet up and a DVD. The valentines madness can continue on happily without me

Thanks for the tip potbelly ! I shall do the same but I have no clue about the DVD . I think for someone in my condition , a romance movie would be too dangerous

Expendables 2

Im married but we wont be doing anything. Lots of fuss for nothing. I always thought valentines day was a waste of time. Plus you can buy perfectly good roses on the 15th for a third of the price!

Yeah, if it's all a bit fresh, a romantic movie might have you reaching for the whiskey bottle

Something mindless but fun I think.

You're closer to reality then you think,
because Mr Valentine was apparently rather miserable himself.
It didn't work out for him either. So in fact its a day to celebrate pure disaster with Love. Sarcasm can be great fun too you know!!

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day .. or not

The 1st Valentine's Day alone after making it through a divorce can be rather depressing or NOT!! Maybe this is the year you should consider celebrating a little love for yourself? Find a single girlfriend and get out there for a fabulous dinner, afterwards go do some serious dancing. You never know who you might meet! Oh, and most importantly, don't forget to have a chilled bottle of Champagne waiting for you when you arrive home.:msngrin Make some good memories and try to enjoy your newly found emancipation!!!

As for myself, I'll be copying Potbelly's plan. Sounds a lot less hectic.:msngrin

Take a train from Zurich to Basel, and from Basel to Paris, and treat yourself to a weekend of food, shopping, spas, culture/ sightseeing, and f*** Valentine's Day, the most useless commercial holiday ever invented!

Good luck and have fun!

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day .. or not

This year offer a rose to a complete stranger with a smile and walk away ....and do not forget that one day, surely soon, it will be a special day for you once more.

I don't really like Valentine's day for as Sada said, poor ol' Valentine had a rough time.

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day .. or not

Give me any reason to celebrate frivolous stuff, rather than what weirdness I had to celebrate before.

Some things cannot be unseen, truth in that.

I don't really mind, either way. I know some people who just use it as one more opportunity to show they remind themselves how lucky they are, I know others who party hard, we had some crazy gigs..music fans get strange on the V day.

I don't want to sound too serious, so please consider this constructively. On the superficial level, it's best if you treat yourself and distract your attention from the memories. On the more profound level - your self-esteem shouldn't depend on the external circumstances (V Day, just 1 day) and the past which of course requires a lot of efforts. But once you become aware of the freedom from the past, life will change.
enjoy the life.
