Times / Sunday Times iPad App

Anybody else use this? They changed it last week and it is the most useless update ever - its a PITA that you need to pay for Times access when most other papers are free, but this is just rubbish!

Torygraph is still free on the web, although you now need a VPN access from abroad.

Their subscription app is not worth it: content updated only daily and very linear. Both seem to defeat the purpose and potential of the web.

Personally, find the FT app the best. Although not cheap and not general news. Although supplemented with the Daily Mail, you end up with a rounded view of the world!

Totally agree. There have been endless complaints by UK subscribers to The Times, who are blaming Apple who are said to have thoroughly tested the software before launch.

I suspect they will get it right soon, but meanwhile contact The Times, let them know how you feel, and ask for a refund!

Re: Times / Sunday Times iPad App

I've been a Times &V Sunday subscriber for 18 months now. They are experiencing what we might call a steep learning curve.

It has taken this long to realise that both papers should have the same online format. Hurray at last for that. Now at least you can check your mail and come back to the app. Before this was near impossible.

Other papers may be free (eg the Mail) but the Times does provide a full paper every day - and now downloaded overnight - if I remember to leave my wi-fi on...

Totally agree. It's terrible. I have been considering cancelling my subscription for some time and I think this has has made my mind up. I also read The Telegraph on my ipad and the app is much more robust.

Re: Times / Sunday Times iPad App

Anyone been able to download today's Times? My App has disappeared completely fro the bookshelf leaving me with yesterday's Sunday Times! What a shambles.

Just started using Chrome instead of FF (as an experiment) and found that I seem to have access again. Whether it's just keeping a separate count of pages visited I haven't yet worked out...
<fx: clicks lots of pages>
No, it's not that. Anyway, it works, so I'm happy again.

Re: Times / Sunday Times iPad App

Called The Times today to cancel my digital subscription. They said I was calling too early and to call back within 7 days of the end of the annual subscription. Zero information about cancelling a subscription on their website and no way to do it online. Miss the 7 day window and you are probably stuck for another year.

Might be worth giving your credit card company a call and mentioning that you tried to cancel, but they wouldn't let you. See if you can revoke the future payment (and at least you have it on record if there is a dispute later).

I think you'll find cancellation is 7 days before monthly renewal. Assuming you pay monthly. It's not a Swiss contract...

Mine is an annual subscription which allows access by any platform. I have anyway emailed them for clarification.

Re: Times / Sunday Times iPad App

I just emailed them and received an auto response, this is what it says about cancellation, somewhat different to what the person I spoke to said. According to this I should be able to cancel now as my subscription is until 22nd April.

To cancel your DIGITAL subscription you must call 0800 092 4054 (for overseas customers call 0044 151 225 1101) at least SIX business days before your next payment is due.

Let's see what the response is to my email.
