Re: Share your Ryanair experiences

I used to fly EasyJet out of Basel and GVA quite a bit and never had a problem. Although they got my wife once for a roller bag that clears on every NORMAL airline. Most of the LCC's have stricter guidelines for carry on luggage.

Now, I fly EasyJet, Vueling, Norwegian, Transavia and Ryan Air quite a bit. Norwegian is THE BEST, by far. RyanAir is probably the worst, especially for extra charges or if something goes wrong. Frequent Flyer programs are a joke now, and I don't qualify for status anymore even though I fly a lot of pan European routes, so I mostly go by price and the only airline I try to avoid is RyanAir. And that is mostly because of the reputation, not because of anything that has happened to me.

Re: Share your Ryanair experiences

Unfortunately, with airline tickets, I am not sure if I agree. For economy class, there is a wide variety of prices on any given day and with just about any airline/route.

And for a 2-3 hour flight, Business Class is not worth the price difference for an empty seat next to me (in the first 3 rows), a slightly better meal and free drinks. But I can usually get a better experience for the same or better price, if I fly on airlines that I know. Kayak and Google are very helpful!

Re: Share your Ryanair experiences

As a cheapskate person in general and a grad student in particular, I've flown often with Ryanair and Easyjet (mostly to Bergamo/Malpensa) and I can't say I have any major complaints.
Sure, the leg room isn't great, but you can just pony-up a few bucks more to book the emergency exit seats for yourself and expand your legs at will. Or be the last person to board the plane ant sit there for free if all the other seats are taken
Checked luggage weight limit must not be exceeded even by a gram, or you'll pay extra, so buy yourself one of those handy portable luggage scales. The same applies to the measurements of the carry-on luggage - if it doesn't fit, it goes in the cargo and you have to pay - but the weight limit seems to be "whatever you can lift onto the overhead bin". So basically, all you have to do is be careful with the details, and you'll be fine.
The best thing about them is that they are always on time, unlike most regular companies.
Now, of course there are a few things you're going to have to put up with, like no free meals and flight attendants selling raffle tickets, but it's not like you can't smuggle some snacks on board.

I fly Ryanair whenever that's a viable option. Unfortunately since I've been in Zürich, it's not, so there's no end of grumbling on my part whenever I have to pony up 300+ chuffs just to go on a weekend trip back home on a regular airline.

Dozens hurt as Ryanair flight loses cabin pressure

"More than 30 Ryanair passengers, some bleeding from their ears, have received hospital treatment in Germany after their plane to Croatia lost cabin pressure, German police say.

"We get on the plane, we're flying and next of all the oxygen mask comes down, we're left in darkness for 15 minutes, there's no reassurance just people shouting 'emergency, emergency'," Sarah McGarry told the newspaper.

Passengers also criticised their treatment once they had landed, saying they had not been given enough food and drink and had been forced to sleep on a concrete basement floor or on camp beds."
