Bachelor silver tea service

Just come back from a reputable antique dealer and auctioneer - and thought I'd up-date on this purchase I made a few months back on EF. The original thread is closed.

The auctioneer confirmed both make and date, and made the comment that it should have been advertised as a 'bachelor tea-service'- rather than tea service, as it would indicate clearly that the tea pot size would be smaller than normal. Apparently boys from good families would be given one of those when going away for education, be it at boarding school or university. The expert said those normally for sale now have a very thin wall at the top, where the initials on name had been erased for sale- but this one has not, which is a plus. So I was just a bit naive as I'd never heard of a bachelor tea-service (I've never ever bought something like this on line)... and the seller a bit 'creative' with the photography and not precise enough with the title - but that's all. The value he gave for sale at auction was 150 to 200 on a good day- so again, the price paid was fair and more or less 'on the money'.

Re: Bachelor silver tea service

I remember the thread about the teapot Odile! I'm glad to hear that you paid a fair price for the tea-set. I hope you enjoy using it too - even more so now you know its value!
