Nazi rank in WW2

Hi everyone,
Does anybody know what Nazi rank this person would have had in WW2? Would he have been SS or just a civilian agent?
German Banker that organizes the deposits from Nazi art and gold trafficking in Switzerland. He has connections with the banks, the SS for gold shipments and art dealers. He also deposits gold and art into the banks which involves sometimes smuggling art into Switzerland.

Its for a character in a book.

Thanks very much!

You could just make him a civilian member of the Nazi party. Plenty were, even Oskar Schindler (I think).

Re: Nazi rank in WW2

Sounds like you need a better understanding of how things were. There was no such thing as a "Nazi rank". There were ranks in the armed and police forces, including SS, SA, SD and Gestapo, and there were pseudo-government positions, some of which were assigned as military rank to special individuals such as Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler.

But a banker, assuming his official job was still as such, would have had no such titles, unless he were actually a member of one of the above organisations.

EDIT: Gaaargh, I've just been trolled, haven't I?

Re: Nazi rank in WW2

IIRC - There is such a similar character in The Tristan Betrayal by Ludlum.

Can't remember his rank though, think he was civilian.

Not sure of the rank structure but I can confirm today 69 years ago, D-Day took place.

Re: Nazi rank in WW2

He would belong to the organization Mefo (Metallurgische Forschungsgesellschaft mbH) under Reichsfinanzminister Graf Schwerin von Krosigk and he would be a civilian, they were the ones bankrolling the third Reich.

You're right. He was the only member of the Nazi party to be honoured at Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous of the Nations.
