Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

I think his point is that they're using the internet to ask people has their internet access been disrupted.

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

I think it has to do with the part asking "have you been affected.......". Have another look people, see if you can work it out

I think it's about comment form which can't be filled out by these who now are offline. However these who just have or had unstable internet access can.

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

Basically, 70 % of the Middle East loses is internet connection and the BBC asks you to email them if you've been affected.

Another story today asks travellers affected in China to email them with reports, despite the fact that you can't access any pages about China on the BBC news website from there...

Perhaps that isnt the only link that they have to the rest of the world. Also, the report says that "Emergency teams were trying to find alternative communication routes, including satellites"

True, but what front-page holding news are they expecting from those affected?

"I clicked on the website and it said 'page not found'. I cried like a little girl as I couldn't play warcraft..." perhaps?

OK, so only a small error, but the exchange rate for pounds into euros and US dollars is fantastic right now...

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

Haha.

And here is what happens when 20 Minuten machine translates press releases. Maybe somebody should tell them that "supersonic" doesn't always mean ultrasonic, before the people who live in the corridors at Kloten celebrate the development of the silent aircraft.

(Maybe it's more appropriate to transfer this to the "words that come out wrong" thread?)

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

Ah, did they mean hypersonic, ie above Mach 5?

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

The press release probably stated "supersonic" which has two meanings: faster than sound and so high-pitched sound that it can't be heard by humans. 20 Min mistranslated it as the latter.

The aircraft isn't hypersonic if I'm not mistaken... Mach is a speed measurement in relation to sonic speed which is different on ground and in the sky... Correct me if I (=Wikipedia) is wrong.

Re: The BBC - are they that stupid?

Yep - Mach 1 is somewhat slower at altitude than at sea level.
I agree about dodgy journalism - anyone see what happened in the papers when a b3ta member created a fake facebook account for Bhutto's son?
