UK Banking: - NatWest card reader

Good afternoon everybody

I need to make an urgent payment from my Natwest bank account but my card reader is broken. I have ordered a new one but wondered if anyone living in Zurich has a functioning one I could borrow!?

Thank you for reading!

Call them and make the payment. Order another card reader so you have two for future uncertainties.

Uh, SOBEIT had the answer in one. Give them a call and make the payment by telephone banking.

Surely that's easier than flying back?

Re: UK Banking: - NatWest card reader

Making a payment by phone is not actually that easy. You can't just call them up and ask them to make a transfer unless you have a phone banking service already set up with all the security measures in place.

If it was as easy as just ringing up and asking them people could go round willy nilly making random payments just by knowing someone's account details.

Every bank in the UK that I've ever dealt with sets up phone banking as part of the normal account set-up. You're issued with a PIN number or password, and that's all you need to make payments.

And that takes a week to set up ;-)

Mine didn't.
Neither Llyods TSB nor Nationwide set up phone banking only online banking with card reader etc.

Phone banking is becoming less common and some banks are scrapping it completely. ( ING for example)

In my defense, I opened my accounts 15 years ago.

Re: UK Banking: - NatWest card reader

All sorted out. Thanks to the no nonsense Bongo for his help and to Loz for the backup plan.

For info for anyone searching on this in the future, or indeed the misinformed, you cannot set up or make international payments through Natwest telephone banking. You need either a card reader or to walk into a branch.
