Swiss agrichemical giant Syngenta/ Atrazine

Is Atrazine used in Switzerland?

It will be interesting to see how this story has legs.

Did Berkeley Defund a High-Profile Pesticide Researcher?

Mr. Hayes said he believes some Berkeley officials, including Graham R. Fleming, vice chancellor for research, may have joined in efforts to penalize him out of a desire to protect a $25-million, five-year research agreement between Berkeley and Novartis, a parent company of Syngenta.
...pesticide maker undertook in an attempt to fight off a lawsuit by several Midwestern towns seeking redress for atrazine residues in their drinking water. (Syngenta settled that suit in 2012 by agreeing to pay out a total of $105 million to more than 1,000 communities, without admitting to culpability.)

What is Atrazine ????
A cheap weed killer that causes birth defects at very low concentrations.
It's really put me off corn.

I just read this (link below) Atrazine is banned in Switzerland.

Isn't it amazing how people like me make assumptions about another's credibility based on their appearance. His appearance reminds me of the lead singer of an old group (Wizard) his website way too gaudy, but his accolades and resume are impressive.

Atrazine is a herbizide, it is banned in the EU, it is supposed to be dangerous, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrazine

Thanks. So that while the ban in modern countries is good, its continued use in countries in Africa and Asia may still be good

You forgot the US of A too. Apparently Tyrone Hayes is for real. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrone_Hayes Novartis/Syngenta paid for his research, it seems that he wouldn't keep his mouth shut about his findings, so they cut his funding.

I walk through the campus regularly - thought that I had seen Dr. Hayes, but I also thought that I saw Bill Gates hanging out at Sather Tower- I guess not!
