Beware Ebookers

Ebookers sent me a ticket with the wrong last name. First they said they would fix it, then did, nothing, and when I pushed refused to do anything. They blamed it on Air France and security policy in the US (our destination). This is the problem with ebookers: as an intermediary they can blame everything on somebody else. I had to eat... the cost of the ticket they issued for a fictitious person and buy a new one at a much higher fare.

It's not worth it to use ebookers. It's not convenient, doesn't save time, and their prices are no better than the fares direct from the airlines. And they are evil.

Anybody else had problems with them?

Never had a problem, used them many times, however I check the name before pressing send, you obviously did not, you screw up yourself, so why blame Ebookers?

Re: Beware Ebookers

I've used Ebookers and Booking.com, and never had a problem with any.

In both cases, whenever needed, I always got immediate and very satisfying service.

Probably you had bad luck?

Re: Beware Ebookers

I dont know. Now that I had the problem, I looked at some other forums and found loads of complaints.

I don't know about "extras". They certainly don't provide the kind of detailed service a real travel agent does pretty inexpensively. And if they don't offer the ticket cheaper than the airline, what's the point?

I've used booking agencies, including ebookers, lots of times, but this last experience taught me a lesson: deal direct with the airline or a reputable travel agent. A third party always has the option of shifting the blame if there is a problem. The others don't. That's what ebookers did to me and I didn't appreciate it. I think it's a dirty business practice and I won't be dealing with them again.

Freudian slip?
OT: I have used them many times and never had problems. My question is how did this false name appear? did you not see it while making the purchase?

Did you type your name wrong or what?

I once did that and had to pay 20 CHF to reissue the ticket... and another time again my mistake in my sons first name but we took the risk.

I am not sure how they would make the mistake as surely they do not retype your name, it is all automatic...

Can you explain exactly how it happened? And if it is thier mistake why not send your legal insurance after them? Surey you are not meant to pay for another ticket?

Do not get it :S

Yep. My fault on the name typing Kri. I was hoping they would fix it like they did yours--and I was willing to pay a penalty. I think it's just a sign of the times. They saw an opportunity to take 2 grand off me and they did it. Mind you, I was dealing with the Swiss office and they are probably getting banged on pretty hard from London HQ to make quotas and not cut anybody slack--least of all a schmuck like me going on holiday with his family. I'm sure they treat corporate clients better.

Air France said only Ebookers could make the change. Ebookers said Air France refused to make the change. This is why I only want to deal direct in the future, or through a travel agent I know and have a working relationship with.

I get the impression that the fix could have been done but neither party wanted the hassle or cost. Fine. Now I know where I stand with Ebookers and Air France and what they consider good business practices.

Well Easyjet fixed it and I thin at least partly it was because I called them immediately after booking and pleaded with them to help me correct MY error...
I wonder whether you called them so promptly and pleaded? Your post here seemed to impley they did something wrong which in fact they did not as they rendered the service you asked and paid for...

Not sure... would travel insurance intervene if you asked for a ticket in the wrong name?
