The road ahead was clear to me: start selling meego devices, since it is a much better OS than Android 2.1 so people will like it and stick to it.
If you think "better" thatn the competition => sales then you haven't been paying attention for the last 20 years or so.

lewton - thanks for that - fascinating - I really didn't expect an EF member to write an analysis specially for me, but that's our caring, sharing forum for you!
You could have hit that "thanks" button, but you are welcome anyway.

Apple has taken over the mantle of evil empire from Microsoft, which is quite an achievement.
true, I still don't know who they pulled it off, but they sure have :-)

I also still like my Lumia 920 (almost a year old now - don't think I've ever had a mobile phone that long... Wanted to sell it a couple of times but now I'm glad I didn't - the ecosystem has much improved and most of the important apps are available now). Was planning on getting the 1020 but the Microsoft deal is keeping me from buying it. My contract is up for renewal and I'm going with the Sony Xperia Z1 instead - but will keep the Lumia 920 as well.

I'm just not convinced that Microsoft will actually keep supporting the current Lumia line beyond WP 8.1. The Z1 has the camera muscle and is backed by Sony, so that should keep it relevant for the next year or so.

Next in line is Blackberry who have a year to go if they are lucky.

If you want an industry leader that lost the plot bigger than Nokia then Blackberry RIM is your answer
Blackberry's already gone. The handset business is beyond rescue and nobody in his right mind will buy it up. And I seriously doubt they can survive in the services business - what do they have to sell? Blackberry Messenger for iOS? Nobody's gonna use that - everybody's happy with whatsapp.
