Calling dishwasher, calling dishwasher

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-27420599

Come on. Do they really expect people to use their mobiles/tablets to tell machines back home to do things? It's not as if the fridge can take a casserole out of the freezer compartment and pass it along to the oven for baking for God's sake. What are you going to tell them over the ether?

What's wrong with doing a bit of planning before you leave home for heaven's sake? We've never had a problem doing it before.

I don't even have a mobile/tablet so good luck selling this junk to me.

Internet printing is the thing that gets me. I still have to go to the printer to collect what I print out!

Re: Calling dishwasher, calling dishwasher

LOL- just daft, I agree. The only ap I'd think worth having is the one to get central heating on after being away for a while.

Much better and nicer alternatives: brilliant neighbours- they also get milk, bread and cheese in- oh and look after the dogs and cat- try and get an ap for that!

A friend put a cartoon on FB the other day. It said 'my I-phone has broken down- so I tried talking to the family, they are quite nice really, especially the kids' doh

Now a dishwasher that would empty itself and put everything away- I'd defo buy.

Re: Calling dishwasher, calling dishwasher

It would be quite nice to leave everything loaded up before going out for the evening, and then calling it to switch on when the electricity is cheaper, I suppose.

Or just push the "on" button when you get home.

I turn our dishwasher on just before I go to bed. Not particularly to get the cheaper rate, but because it's convenient.

For myself I can't see any difference between pushing buttons on machines when I'm home and bashing my finger on my mobile/tablet when I'm out. The finger's still going to get the workout and I'd miss out going downstairs to turn the washing machine on thereby missing some of my miniscule daily exercise. I'm supposed to be increasing the exercise, not decreasing it!

Re: Calling dishwasher, calling dishwasher

I don't like to run things overnight in case they disturb the neighbours, tbh. Actually, in our last house it was more that they disturbed my daughter who's room was above the kitchen - the soundproofing was particularly atrocious in that house though.

Is your dishwasher/washing machine that noisy?

Plus the everpresent risk of hacking; someone instructing my deepfreeze to defrost while it is full of food would not be funny.

Or turning my wash machine on at the highest temperature for the longest time; same for my oven

The old dishwasher made a sort of whooshing noise if there were big pans in it, and the washing machine spin cycle was pretty vicious! I don't think the dishwasher here would disturb anyone, but since the neighbours already have to put up with our dogs, I wouldn't like to risk it!

Hey, if you want to go out to a nice romantic dinner for two and have to bash your gadgets sending instructions to the machines back home during the meal then go for it. I'd rather have the nice meal in peace and quiet and then push the buttons once I'm back home.

But then I've never understood why people need to have mobile phones in the first place.

Is that all you are doing when you leave the house...having romantic dinners?

And once more, personally I wish there would be more apps like that I can use. If the date is going well, pop over to the men's room, set up the Barry White on remote, light the electric candles, turn the video of a burning fire , or real burning fire on, fire up the wine fridge so I look classy and ready to go at a good temperature, send the iRobot on search for those propolactics I can never find at the most crucial of times, heck even program a device that puts it on the right way, and not having the re roll it.

If the date isn't working so well, set the case of Quollfrisch on ice, program Big Bang Theory and Rude Tube, and set the dishwasher to go when I think I have filled it with enough beer glasses.

With all these visions about kitchen gadgetry integrated with the internet, it's refreshing to remember the good old days when we did not have to bother with such technology . . .

No it isn't; I hated doing the washing/drying up.

Use your imagination.

I use my tablet or phone to eat lunch with my daughter over facetime, among a few hundred other useful albeit less enjoyable things.
