Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

I just booked a photographer to shoot some engagement photos, I explained that both my fiancée & I are both in the business & wanted some interesting moody pictures taken at magic hour. Imagine my horror when the photographs showed up with a huge battery powered flash!

My fiancée had had full make up & hair done for the shoot. The results looked as through we were shot on a green screen in a news studio! Last night on the way to dinner I set up a camera on a tripod using a self timer. The results I would have happily paid for!

Ouch that sucks, but for the record a battery powered flash is not bad at all when used properly. Hope you get some usable photos for your wedding though.

The battery flash was huge on a tripod, it was brighter than full sunlight at 8 meters! Thanks

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

Annnnnd the Fuji X-T2 is now announced and info collected here http://www.fujirumors.com/

Links to hand-on preview from Fuji X shooters http://www.fujirumors.com/fuji-x-t2-...video-youtube/

Also dpreview preview http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fuji...essions-review

I think from all of these reports that it looks like a highly significant upgrade to the original X-T1. Autofocus performance finally looks like it could be less of a headache, and the new button ergonomics look decent.

September 8th is a long time to wait though...

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

yep, looks good so far, a bit more expensive than I thought, but I guess now that Fuji has carved out a loyal following and seem to have produced a much more mass-appeal camera, they are looking to capitalize on it. I, for one, will definitely upgrade. Anyone need a X-T10 mid-Sept? Excellent price!

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

I just, erm, accidentally bought a Fuji E-X2. Digitec were doing one for a special sale price of 450chf. I also ordered the 35mm f2 from Microspot.

With the new firmware it's basically up to X-T10 standards http://www.fujivsfuji.com/xt10-vs-xt1-vs-xe2/

Plan is to use it for a couple of months, get used to the system and processing, and then gift it to my dad as a little treat when the X-T2 is released as he has been looking for a new camera and I know he would love the Fuji system.

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

Hi Rich, sounds similar. I took the step of off loading all my Nikon kit in March to get the X-Pro2 and a few lenses.... do love the Fuji Jpegs out of the camera and the form factor.
So far 35mm F2, 56mm 1.2 and 18-55. Just waiting for the newer smaller 23mm to round it off.
Hmm am I getting X-T2 envy.... looks very good but will stick to rangefinder style .. for the moment!

A few of the first results from a trip to India at the end of March.

Holy crap Trueblue good work, those are amazing photos, photojournalist quality. The colours and skintones etc are just astounding.

Do you shoot directly to JPEG or do you shoot to RAW and then convert? How much post-processing work do you put in vs Nikon? The amount of post I did with Nikon RAW's getting them to look right just sapped my will to live...

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

Thank you! I have to confess I never touch RAW, they are straight out of the camera.
I did some searches on what settings a few respected photographers use. A UK wedding photographer called Kevin Mullins is well worth looking at. He has a few very inspirational you tube clips on using Fuji X for his work and has put some detailed blogs up about what settings he uses for color and Black and white.

Then consider me impressed... they are just awesome. Was it hard to get those shots in focus or are you finding the AF up to the job for street photography?

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

I had a first generation X100 which I got a long time ago on Ebay for fun.
That I found slow and a big disconnect in responsiveness.

The new focusing speed and near zero shutter lag is perfect... no sense of disconnect.
I did miss a few more than usual early days compared to DSLR but that was probably more down to getting to grips with the very useful joystick for choosing a focus point.

In case you haven't come across this, and if you hate manuals as much as I do!, this you tube clip gets you started quite quickly to the basic Fuji generic workings/setups.

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

Well, I spent a day with the Fuji X-E2 while hiking and it was a tough learning experience... so different to my DSLR, especially the autofocus which is a world away from the speed and accuracy of my D750, and requires a completely different approach. When you do nail the focus though, JPEGs look absolutely stunning with a magical quality that the Nikon never managed thanks to the Fuji film simulation modes.

I am off to Bellinzona at the weekend and then Portugal the week after and have ordered the 16mm f1.4 WR to be my travel companion as I read it is one of the best wide angle primes in existence, and also very light vs a full frame equivalent. Fun tmes, and I can't wait until the X-T2 is released.

Re: ****The Photography Discussion Thread****

Guess I'm kind of the opposite. I need two fists full and eye fused TTL with a DSLR to feel integrated in the process. My P&S, even with a good EVF still feels remote, and while the weight difference is vast, it is also less steady.

Some photos of my trip to Portugal... https://www.flickr.com/photos/richim...57672495708706

It was a beautiful place with a lot of character, but I was surprised by the amount of begging I saw on the streets, and tried to convey that element mixed in with the images of the more pleasing things too.

On another note, the Fuji X-T2 is almost released, only around 3 weeks to go, woo-hoo...

The 16mm is a stunning lens. Its nothing short of exceptional and I am saying this after moving from Canon L series on a 5dMIII.
However, in terms of fun, nothing beats the Samyang 8mm fish-eye in my view. Great fun, makes you move around a lot and oh, the sharpness...
