Oliver Sacks is dying - and he wrote a beautiful letter

I've read some of Oliver Sack's wonderful books and so it was with great sadness that I just read of his terminal illness.
To this effect he penned a wonderful piece which appears in today's NY Times online.
I won't repost it here, but I encourage you to read it and/or to save it for your loved ones:
Oliver Sacks: my own life.

I read this yesterday too. Very moving. He's such a wonderful insightful writer and a kind man. I have "Uncle Tungsten" (about his chemical childhood) and another about the development of sign language for the deaf. Both recommended, but I'm sure all of his books are worth reading.

A lovely story about Oliver Sacks going to a gay bar for (probably) the first time just a few months before his death.

Will very much miss his books. He helped to keep perspective on the most insane moments. He passed away of course last year.
RIP and thanks.

Re: Oliver Sacks is dying - and he wrote a beautiful letter

A fascinating guy. His autobiography (On the Move) opened up so many 'new' aspects of his life to me. In his 'An Anthropologist on Mars' I first heard of Temple Grandin. (She was recently in Zürich). His books remind us again and again how little we really know about the brain and its workings. My copies are showing signs of wear!

I heard him speak a few times here in Zurich, back in the '90s. He was as good in person as his writing indicate.
