Heathrow or Gatwick?

The 2 major London airports are positioning themselves to bid for a possible new runway.

Which would you you be backing?

Heathrow.... where your 1.5 hour flight is preceeded/followed by 1.5 hours trying to get through the organised chaos....
or.... Gatwick which seems to have plenty of expansion potential.

Heathrow, because it's a World Class Airport for a World Class Country.

The big plus of Gatwick is that its relatively small and thus you don't lose oodles of time getting to the right part of it. But a potential expansion may well kill that advantage.

Another plus for Gatwick is that it has a proper train station with trains to lots of different destinations (if you're not actually heading to London).

Both could benefit from somebody bringing the interior design out of the 1980s and from somebody teaching the staff to be a little bit more friendly. But I guess that is common to airports around the world.

Re: Heathrow or Gatwick?

Being sensible, neither airport is suitable for expansion. Heathrow is full up - they so themselves, and Gatwick is on the wrong side of London. Why bring more aircraft to an already over crowded airspace?

The only sensible thing is to expand the northern airports: why make half the population travel across Britain to go on holiday? If there were more long distance flights available from northern airports, London would be better off.

Think outside the box! Why do all these planes fly to Heathrow? http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/Info/MAN/Schedules

I don't believe half the population take half the flights, so there is little business sense in that as an idea. I suspect 80% of the population fly out of London airports once or less a year. FWIW I have used UK airports 5 times in 2015 so far & not once Heathrow or Gatwick.

Build a circular runway and never have to worry about it being too short.

3 is kind of dented ... so is 8, on both sides. Which do you think LHR should have?

Maybe you should not be so fast to post as I had seen and corrected the typos before you posted

Re: Heathrow or Gatwick?

2030?

LOL!

Install traffic lights on M25 and use as runway.
Probably more expedient than getting these bar stewards to make a decision and proceed.
Alternatively, tunnel the Thames and concrete at Westminster bridge?

Not all of them -- you've still got three punctuation marks to go.
