a) why would you need one?

b) I don't think you'd be allowed to have any such thing here as a private citizen.

What is a personal protection dog? Do you mean a dog that will look (and sound) big and scary, but actually just likes having his tummy tickled? Or do you mean an animal which will growl and bare its teeth at unwanted visitors, and maybe attack a house-breaker when you feel threatened? If it's the latter, you want your head examined.

A personal protection dog protects ones own property and one self from harm i.e. bites when the owner would be thretend .. I wanted one for that reason and work ..plus when we travel in Europe ( non tourist ) areas for work. .. and thanks for the nice comments btw ...

So we're talking a highly-trained animal, which would effectively be a weapon - something like a police or military dog?

Similar .. the dog bites and barks on commands but can also do something as simple as detection work

You need a dog to guard hedges? I wouldn't bother, I've never heard of bushes being stolen in Switzerland.

Sounds like you're not living in Switzerland yet. I recommend that you search this forum for threads on dog ownership -- it's no simple matter here, you will need to complete certain required courses and you will need to have both the free time and the space to care appropriately for a dog.

Certain dog breeds (the growly, snappy, privet-guarding types) are illegal in Switzerland.

You really need to do a lot of homework on this.

How's your German? Or use Google's automatic translation. Try googling Diensthund kaufen Schweiz (or Basel). There are places which could point you in the right direction. Many of them will speak a bit of English if your German is a bit rusty.
i am good with my german fluent in both my native swiss german and english . i just thought i would try here first i have been looking on other forums as well i have been on the look out for a good strong male doberman , found a few rotties but there not for me

Re: Dog

Unless you are doing something illegal, you don't need a protection dog here in Switzerland.

Re: Dog

Have you worked with dogs before? Have you trained them to protect? Have you trained them to detect?

I am sure you can get guard dogs in Switzerland - but if you are wealthy enough to have something worth protecting with them, and are Swiss the chances are you're not going to post on a English forum.
