Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

The inevitable has happened and the Beeb (BBC) have dropped the "dinosaur", Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear.

Love him or loathe him (and I'm sure the opinion is divided) he made for some good viewing. However, if what was written in the media actually happened, then he definitely crossed the line and he deserves to go, as an absolute minimum punishment.

Assuming the BBC can keep hold of the gold mine that is the Top Gear franchise before another channel snap him/it up, who do you think should replace him on the show?

Here's my thoughts:

Guy Martin : avid biker, a bit quirky, knows motors.
Prof Brian Cox : He loves his millions and billions and trillions of facts.
Nick Nolte - Mad as a hatter.
Vicki Butler-Henderson : knows her motors, safe viewing material.

Re: Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

And who are these suggested people? Replacing him wont be easy as the 3 guys work great together will be extremely difficult to keep that mix. Maybe I am wrong but this is likely to turn into a BBC stuff up where Top Gear becomes a thing of the past that people cease to be interested in.

Re: Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

I will no longer be watching it for one. Not that I thought he was that great but the trio made it worth it.

If they were to start a different show on another channel i'd catch on again but top gear for me is dead

Re: Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

Given that the Beeb has owned Top Gear lock, stock and barrel since 2012 they'll have no trouble hanging on to it.

Whoever "snaps up" the idiot trio will have to come up with a sufficiently different format not to get hit with a Beeb lawsuit for infringement of copyright, etc.

Frankly, Top Gear has had a good run, being on air long before Clarkson et al joined it, so maybe it's time to say goodbye to the whole idea. After all there are plenty of re-runs of TG on "Dave" to keep the "toys for boys" brigade happy.

Guy Martin - well known as a biker and speed freak on UK tv.

Vicky Butler-Henderson - formerly a TG presenter before Clarkson so also well known. Went off to do the Fifth Gear (old TG clone) programme for Channel 5.

Nick Nolte - relatively well known actor. Not sure why you'd want him presenting the programme though.

Never heard of Prof. Brian Cox.

I think he might have meant Nick Knowles. He's known as a bit if a petrol head and would make more sense than Nick Nolte.

I can't believe you haven't heard of Professor Brian Cox. He is a renowned physicist and has made some very interesting documentaries for the BEEB.

Re: Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

Just caught the end of 'The Classic Car Show' (ch.5) - not a bad variation on a theme .... but Paddy Hopkirk helped.

Quentin is ..... well, Quentin - he's done the sensible version of TG, years ago and wont go back - but Jodie Kidd was interesting ..... sexy, but appears to be able to drive a bit. Just what the other two need - a dominatrix.

Suzi Perry always worked with Moto GP, and now F1, so why not Jodie for TG replacement?

No, I definitely meant Nick Nolte. Mumbly, jumbly speaker, bit of a whacko, so not unlike JC.

Exactly, Brian Cox is a great presenter. Pop sensation (debatable) with D:Ream in the early/mid '90's and then went on to be an astrophysicist. He's done some great presenting work about science, physics, space etc, but made it interesting and understandable to mere mortals. His favourite descriptions of facts usually involve "millions upon millions of billions and trillions of something or other".

Re: Who should replace Jeremy Clarkson?

Who needs Jeremy Clarkson anyway, when an EF Used Car Sale (or an attempt there at) has all Top Gear's essential features : humour, sarcasm, irony, insults, controversy, anecdotes and experiences (of varying degrees of credibility), adhoc valuation advice, blatant piss taking etc. etc.

Not a recommendation for Suzi, but comparison of the fairer sex, regarding Jodie.

Probably too late for Suzi:

Quite. I propose a new lineup of dodgyken, bigblue2 and LiB, just to keep it interesting.

JC (was) a loudmouthed garrulous prat.

He is now history.

Can find a replacement outside any UK pub at closing time.
