The selfie obsession seems to have become interwoven in today's sharing culture. It's unfortunate that some pay the price for vanity with their death.
Another raising trend with dangerous consequences is taking photos near / on train tracks (Train track instagrams)
A Maryland teen was struck by an oncoming Amtrack a few weeks ago, as he and two other teens were having a photo shoot on the tracks.
Not sure how one best goes about protecting kids from dangers that come with oversharing. Prohibiting selfies, sexting and social networking would likely make them do those things behind your back.
Addressing low self-esteem issues and drawing the line between healthy and unhealthy activities seems to be further complicated when a majority of adults have regular selfie taking habits.
Teaching self-respect seems to be the key factor here, next to discussing (potentially) lifealtering dangers of risking life and limb for a perfect picture. Perhaps schools should join parents in helping kids take and share images in responsible and reasonable manners.
