How crazy do you have to be to sign up to a dedicated infidelity website with all of your personal details? If you're going to commit infidelity then just do it then do it anonymously in real-life. Or better still, if they want to stay married and just aren't getting enough sex then why don't they just get a gigolo/hooker once in a while and keep it completely no strings and emotion-free.

I guess part of the thrill is getting caught---maybe it's a hair-brained marketing scheme, I'm sure their website has gotten a ton of new traffic.

I must admit though that even as a liberal guy their TV adverts make my blood boil. The whole "Life's too short, have an affair" slogan is simply risible and just wrong on every level I can think of.

The personal data is due to credit card payments associated with members profiles. Yet another reason not to use a credit card online ;-)
If the full database leaks it might keep lawyers busy for long.

Has anybody downloaded the data dump?
I'm downloading it now just for fun, all of the so called search sites are searching on email address which is rubbish.. I don't know my neighbours or colleagues email addresses .. Though it would be more fun to grep through it or load it up in mysql or something .

So you can shout loudly at your neighbor about their lifestyle from your endlessly high moral platform ?
It is people's private lives, it is beyond description to post this kind of stuff for the world to gloat over.

For the economists amongst you who really have nothing better to read this weekend: An Ashley Madison Recession? Or an Ashley Madison Stimulus?. Will all the divorce activity generated by the leak be a stimulus or a drag on the economy?

However i would find it highly amusing to find my boss in there describing some fantasy about dressing up as a dwarf with a carrot stuck up his bum.
Morals vs Funny .. I would find that funny but i wouldn't take the moral high ground over it, each to their own..
Now climb down from you high horse.

Now climb down from you high horse. | | | | | That's the point though. If your boss is a dwaf/carrot man and you get to find out, how is he effectively manage you from now on when he's the laughing stock of the office ?
perhsps you could help me understand how not wanting to watch families get destroyed is 'being on a moral high hores' ? Everyone has the right to a personal life and the Internet is destroying that.

We live in the age of the Internet, everybody should really know that by now. So in my humble opinion, families will not be destroyed by the hack, that's just technology, if families are destroyed it was the done by the people who chose to sign up..
Totally agree that everybody has a right to a personal life and to do what they choose between the sheets with whomever they choose.. But writing it on the Internet is just silly.
It's like that old argument, guns are not dangerous, people are. | Quote: | | | | | That's the point though. If your boss is a dwaf/carrot man and you get to find out, how is he effectively manage you from now on when he's the laughing stock of the office ?

I just find the whole internet a depressing and dangerous force nowadays. When I was a teenager I did some pretty stupid things when I was drunk, I think we all did, and you woke up the next day thinking 'oops, that was daft', maybe had a shameful morning as your mates teased you, and that was that. Nowadays if you do something, write something, say something that you really wouldn't under normal circumstances you have a chance that not just your mates but the whole world will see it, and it will be there, forever, unable to leave you behind.
Whether it's the Ashley Maddison hack, revenge porn, YouTube 'loser' clips or whatever they call them, the Internet does as much harm as good I think nowadays. Lives really are destroyed by this stuff, if you read some of the effects that posting naked pictures of former partners actually had on them, then they are sometimes shattered as regular society members.
When the Internet started, it was a good thing. Nowadays, I really think it's s negative force as it's currently configured. I would prefer to see a fully regulated Internet, much like we do for TV.
