God, by "Bikini wax at 11" I thought you meant a lunchtime beauty treatment NOT the age!!!

That is appalling!

Scary . I don't think I want my girls to grow up !

Me too ! But then again my 12 year old brought up the waxing thing last week much to my surprise.

It is so sad that children do not seem to have a childhood anymore. They are made to grow up far too early when mentally & physically they are not ready for it

Well, not so long ago seven was just the right age to start working in a coal mine... But I definitely disagree with being obsessed by your appearance at such a young age. On the other hand, if it's just to avoid the hair being visible when wearing swimwear, ok, I see the point. But no brazilians, I hope!

I find it shocking that a mother would encourage something like that. I am rather liberal with these kinds of issues, but there is something to be said here for emotional and sexual maturity.





The problem, at least in my opinion, with kids growing up too fast is that they do not have the emotional stability and experience to handle how others will react to such things ie: somebody hitting on a bikini waxed 11 year old (who looks older) at the pool.

Similarly in the US, it's reported that some girls breast implant funds have more money in them than their college funds. Parents start planning their daughter's augmentation before they even go through puberty....

isn't the whole idea of the bikini wax to look prepubescent? i've never understood this no bodyhair - fetish and find it disturbing for people to do it at any age! ditto for armpits btw ..

It's not a fetish either. According to dictionary.com, fetish: any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.

But there is a difference between a bikini wax and a brazilian.

Some people like body hair, some people don't.

However, I do not like the message that is being sent to young girls regarding body image/sexuality by this type of thing.

Taking your girl into get a pedicure for her birthday is one thing but to get a brazilian at 11 is just not right.

thank you, ms. pedantic. the fact that body hair, which is a natural feature of the body, has become an obsession not only among women but men is why i reiterate the perfectly apt word: fetish.

So, if you were at the beach and you saw a 30 yr old woman in a bikini, who had done no, ahem, maintenance, it's all good and natural in your book?

I'm guessing though you probably shave your face, which is based upon a societal obsession with what is perceived as clean-cut and acceptable for a working environment.

Anyhoo, taking young girls to spas, isn't productive, IMO.

It's not become an obsession, complete removal of pubic hair has been part of some cultures for many centuries.

i do shave my face. i personally do not want a beard for fashion and comfort reasons - without going into detail, the same cannot be argued for pubic hair. moreover, many people do have beards and are also acceptable for a working environment - so there goes your theory.

as for the hypothetical woman in bikini, you could describe her as good and natural, but more importantly: not freakish.

So your removal of body hair is okay, but other's removal for whatever reasons they may have, without going into detail, is freakish?
