The "What should you be doing instead" thread...

Morning.

So. Little Rufus has been up since 2.30 and crashed in my spot in the bed about 40 minutes ago. I'm hoping a nap is in my near future. I've got a load of marking to do and have conceded defeat and got up at the crack of sparrow (currently in the UK) to do so.

However, I find myself on here, whilst flitting between various catch up radio programmes.

What are your favourite displacement/distraction activities?* Or what should you be doing instead of reading this?

Right now I should be cleaning the apartment! Yesterday I had this big plan of cleaning the whole place (a mini spring clean, if you will). This morning, I quickly had breakfast, then went shopping . Bavk home,, I am now listening to some music, reading EF, and waiting for my alarm to ring go to pick up the little one from Wald. So, I guess the mini Spring clean will have to wait for, huh, Spring

I should be reading "Wake Up, Little Tiger". Again. For the seventh time straight in a row, tenth time total this morning.

Instead I have shoved it down the back of the couch and am taking a quick peek at my phone while waiting for them to bring mommy another book, any other book at all.

My commiserations, MathNut! If I hear my little one going "who's there trip-trapping over my bridge?"* one more time, I will go mad!!

* it was cute the first 10 times, now it's bloody noise.

Update: instead of another book they both went and found their shoes - and mine! - so I took the hint and we've gone out.

Now they're snoring in the back of the car and I'm sipping my takeaway coffee, looking at snowy mountains and basking in the last hour of sunshine.... safe in the knowledge that I can't do any of the things I should be doing anyway so might as well enjoy myself!

I should be at the airport getting ready for our flight, but the sodding thing's been cancelled. On the bright side, at least we have a bed for the night; there are apparently no hotel rooms at all to be had in Basel tonight.

I should be writing or spring cleaning but I am just getting back from French weekend where I chased affordable and durable soccer gear.

Rufi - hope you get out ok tomorrow. I am grading battery exams and essay papers on the train.

Thanks, but no flights until Tuesday. And we're landing a couple hundred miles away from where we intended to land! Ho hum...

Re: The "What should you be doing instead" thread...

I should be writing reports. I got off to a great start this morning - finished preparing my material orders for next year, prepared maths for the next week. Then it all stopped.

Whatever I don't do this afternoon, I have to do tomorrow. I don't want to work tomorrow. I want a day off.

But I don't want to work today either.

I miss weekends.

These were my favourite things when my little one was before Gymi / Uni.

Enjoy them when you can - I hold onto those wonderful memories (and wonder how they went so quickly) almost every time that my heart beats.

How I long for those old cuddles up to Mom in the mornings sometimes, or the appreciation in the eyes of my child for things that she finds would be good to follow in me.

Nowadays, she's a strong young woman doing it all on her own (currently deep in Uni exams), has a wonderful boyfriend since a couple of years and luckily i.e. my luck still living at home.

I would want to re-live every second of birth to growing-up, but of course won't be given that chance again ;-). It's hard at the time, but it's a beautiful time, even if life has been a bit tough. I'd never replace it.

Not sure what I should be doing. What I think you should be doing is writing a letter to little Rufus, Handwritten, Ink. Try not to smear the ink with tears. Give it to him when he is 21 or so.

Why does this thread not have a possibility to contribute without having to provide a life storey without feedback
Seems exceptionally applicable to Switzerland (as well as other countries).

I intend to. I have a book for her, already.

Why do you say so, out of interest?
