I love copenhagen!

Just got back from a short trip to Copenhagen and I was BLOWN AWAY. Handsdown my favourite European city.

A couple of instances I was just absolutely impressed:

1) Friendliest train conductor ever - I was definitely looking a little lost on the train platform looking for the correct train from the airport to the city. The train conductor CAME OVER and said "Yes, my dear, if you're looking for the train to the city this is it, hop on!"

2) Every single shop assistant was polite, warm and genuinely helpful - At COS (my favourite place to shop), the cashier went "Darling, looks like its meant to be" when I told him I found the dress I wanted in my size on sale. Then he swiftly packed it up in a soft cloth bag cause "it'll be easier to pack into the luggage"

3) Grumpy baristas do not exist at Starbucks - The barista shouted out "Bye Carrie, have a good day!" as I was leaving, 60 minutes after I placed my order (and therefore gave him my name)

4) Hotel staff that treat you like a real person - Was feeling terribly unwell on my final day and had 5 hours to kill before my 9pm flight. Checked into Hilton Hotel at the airport on their day rate and asked if I could check out slightly later than 6pm. The staff immediately spoke to her manager and allowed me to check out anytime before I needed to leave for my flight. No other questions, just a "I'm really sorry you're feeling unwell" and "How are you feeling now?" upon checking out.

So many so many more instances of great service and great people I can't even begin to list them all!

Maybe I've been here long enough to be surprised and moved by good service...

Re: I love copenhagen!

Spent many months over recent years working there, and loved it as well. There is just "something" about the atmosphere, the people, the weather. It's a bit like Switzerland in many ways, with a drizzle of U.K. on top (sorry if I've offended anyone).

Also worked with many Danes, and am happy to say still do.

Re: I love copenhagen!

It's... a calm yet vibrant atmosphere. You're right. It's "something", can't quite put my finger on it. But I have to disagree with the "it's a bit like Switzerland" part... the people are wayyyyyyy friendlier, at least that's the case of this east asian looking girl who speaks English with a weird accent!

Re: I love copenhagen!

I think it's the people that are a little different more than anything else.

Never been myself, and it looks like I need to rectify that, but one of my closest mates regularly travels to Aarhus to conclude projects with his Danish colleagues. He can drink with the best of them, but the only time he has 3 day hangovers is when he's been 'entertained' by these colleagues.

Re: I love copenhagen!

As a Dane this makes me really happy. Being abroad I am more focused than ever on the differences between Denmark and other countries.

Nice to know you had a nice time there, I see Danish people as friendly people, but guess somtimes when you are "one of them" you dont really see it as much. Being new in switzerland I do miss the danish peoples ability to speak english.

It did cross my mind to visit. But I didn't know if I needed a visa.
