Construction quality

Hi All, Actually this isn't a complaint about Switzerland, it is a complaint about the quality of US construction, particularly housing construction.

After experiencing the high construction standards in Switzerland, i find myself particularly annoyed whever i go back to the US and see the ticky tacky cardboard McMansions in every suburb across the country. Is anyone else particularly annoyed by this?

Or are you convinced that having a gift-wrapping room in your quadruple-wide emitts luxury vibes?

Re: Construction quality

You think that is puzzling consider this:
How is 40 year old toilets in a Swiss bar can smell less of stale urine than toilets in a brand new pub in the UK?

Re: Construction quality

I've always quite fancied a room just for wrapping gifts. But then I'd have to decide if I would actually wrap them myself or simply get the butler to do it.

The butler can bring the gifts home so his sick and lame children can do the wrapping -- easy solution as long as the kiddies don't caugh on the gifts.

You've been drinking in entirely the wrong places! Maybe you were on the cheap imported lager rather than the proper stuff.

But I have a wrapping room. Why would my butler take work home? He lives in. Besides, Mr and Mrs Butler's kids are no longer at home. They have a small yappy-type dog, though. She's no good at wrapping, however, no thumbs to help her tie the bows.

The neighborhood I grew up in is slowly being taken over by a zombie monster house apocalypse. Initially they were just big, now they are increasingly butt ugly ostentatious.

Re: Construction quality

Another UK observation:
I was back in the UK at Christmas and wandered around the 1970's suburban housing estate I grew up on. Along one road every single house had been extended over the garage leaving just a few inches between each house.

The about half of them had turned the garage into a room. It left the road feeling like terraced housing - which is what the original builders were trying to avoid.

Yes.

But good construction quality in the UK is about the same as 1970s Swiss building quality. And if you talk to a Swiss person about anything built in the 70s they tut, shake their heads and tell you it should be knocked down.
