Re: The nine month countdown

The problem is that Malta is having the coldest and longest winter for over eighty years, at the moment it is 17° cold, thing is that the houses are not heated and are really good at getting what bit of warmth there is outside, great when it is touching 50° in the sun but it means that my flat hasn´t been warmer than 14° tops since December, added to that the humidity will roll the paper from the walls.

Hope the little one arrives soon.

I'm in for helping with the blanket as long as I can crochet and not knit my square! ( I cannot knit).

Re: The nine month countdown

Mainly @MC..... seems I'm not the only one that thinks 20 x 20 squares are too big (from a visual point of view) for a cot blanket. But am willing to go down that road if you've already started and it's not me that's going to be sewing them together!

Could you let me know for definite soon as I'm itching to start but daren't until I'm sure I'm making the correct size.

Have now found two shades of grey, one pale in washable cotton, and a much darker one that's a cotton-acrylic mix; both double knit. Not fifty, but it's a start.

What about "Slammer's Pride"? I know it sounds a bit like a craft beer, but he might be amused by that.....

Wouldn't "Nudger" be an appropriate diminuitive of "Slammer"?
...
Wait, scratch that, if it's a boy the negative connotations would be unfortunate even for a family nickname.

I think it could be quite cool to mix crochet and knit as it'll give different textures as well as different colours.
I can do either.

I've found some medium grey acrylic cotton mix double knit. Once we decide on the size I'll knit or crochet a couple of squares with it and post them on to whoever is going to sew them together.
I personally think smaller is better.

I've made an executive decision and gone down the 10 X 10cm route... that way any 20 X 20 ones will fit as mine just need to be founded up.

Hope MC isn't too cross with me.

I'll do some 10x10 too then. I have found three different greys now.

Oh, you guys are the best! No no no - the only reason I considered larger squares was the fact it looked like just me and Anjela (and mini-me) were going to stitch! And it would take forever. Ditto for crochet, if there is only one crochetted square, it would be weird.

Looks like there will be a few of us, excellent! 10x10 it is then and let's knit&crochet!

I will put Slammer's Pokemon Blankie thread together when I get back from symphony! Just to make it visible for crafters... <3

Ladies... if thus pokebannie is going to be 60x80, and composed of 10x10cm squares, and everybody uses grey then it might end up being 48 shades of grey.

That would be... unfortunate.

Come on MC, if you think about it involves almost the same number of stitches.... just feels worse because smaller squares means a bit more casting on and off (and sewing together, poor you).

Look on the bright side.... this is nothing, I've just discovered I've got to knit two more of the MIL's '50s baby blanket pattern (with the tons of blocking and seaming involved) as my SiL has proudly announced that her wretched offspring are expecting yet more sprogs....argh.

I'm also happy to crochet some squares. I just don't have any gray in my stash. I have black in baby weight cotton, could do double strands. Also have a bunch of colors.

I know, but at least the underwater landscape is spectacular with the ruins of the azur window.

Yes its pretty cool U/W, but I loved it intact and above. Those divers sure make a lot of noise with their breathing and their bubbles... Freediving rocks !

I'm using some pale grey yarn left over from a cotton blanket I knitted for my first grand-daughter.... it's perfectly acceptable these days. And #2 son has requested a cot blanket in black just in case his fiancée ever decides they're starting a family.

But orange and grey? Shudder.... my English grammar school uniform was dark grey with burnt-orange shirts, way back in the mists of times; long before Easyjet.

Re: The nine month countdown

I can do several crochet squares if that helps? I have some baby weight very soft DK yarn in kind of a mottled blue and also a similar in pale orange. Would that be OK?

So 10 x 10 cm, yes? Definitely?

I'll crack on with them this weekend, just let us know where to send them!

Sorry, have just seen the grey and white colour scheme message: will pick some up tomorrow. Cotton mix?

Exactly! So - looking for volunteers to sew it together. I can collect them and deliver somewhere. Ton of tiny squares, lol. That's why I wanted big. If nobody signs up for sewing, I can do it.

Ok - ladies, let's move on to a new thread, leave space here for antsy slammer..
