Firefox aims for download record

Quote:
Version 3 of the popular Firefox web browser is going on general release on 17 June.
Wide take-up of the new version would further boost the market share of the browser which is currently used by about 15% of net users.
With the release, Firefox developer Mozilla is attempting to set a record for the most downloads over 24 hours.
Quote:
The attempt to break the record will begin at 1800 BST.

Re: Firefox 3

On the download page it shows Firefox 2.0.0.14 and not 3. There is only a release candidate download for firefox 3.

Re: Firefox 3

Is there an (approximate) running total being maintained somewhere so we can see how many downloads they're achieving?

When I look under Help > About Mozilla Firefox > it says Firefox Version 3.00.
Looks like their V3 page is down and it's showing the older version now.

Edit- Try this link- http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
Shows Version 3 right now.

Re: Firefox 3

I downloaded it last night, and it still has the same bug that I was getting with the last current release! Gah! (a url linking directly to an image often just displays an message saying the image can't be displayed because it contains errors....)

Re: Firefox 3

One thing I noticed right away (on my Mac) was that when you copy/paste into EF Firefox retains the formatting the same way IE does (Safari doesn't).

Shell. I had the same problem and read somewhere that if I was using the Skype plugin then I should disable it.

I was, I did and it works great now.

Re: Firefox 3

I have to say, it doesn't happen very often that I like a new version of a browser right away - but Firefox 3 rocks. I love the new UI on the Mac, great design - looks much better than the Windows version now :-)

Re: Firefox 3

I've now had a play with FF3 on all the of the OSs. Not installed any plugins as I have found these in the past, to be the thing that "crashes" FF.

On Mac - I see the biggest changes and improvements. The look (skin) is much better suited to the Mac desktop. It is much much faster than it used to be on OSX - so much so I think I can finally move across from using Safari.

On PC (XP) - Speed is the biggest improvement and my task manager is showing it using much less CPU and a little less memory.

On Linux - was and still is just great - not noticed much speed improvement - but that is probably due to the slow processor in my eee pc
