Portugal this August

Would be thankful for tips as to what one should see/do in the central and northern part of the country.

And for car hire companies in Lisbon. Prices vary greatly for the same car type. Is there something behind this?

Re: Portugal this August

Hi,
August is the most expensive time to take vacations in Portugal, so don't be alarmed.
We used to hire with Avis, but now we use http://www.holidaycars.com/ Got a good deal on a 7 seat van and some friends got also good deals on regular cars.

Re: Portugal this August

If you like sea and fish, I would recommend you to stick only on the coast. A slow trip from Lisboa to Porto by car, always driving on the roads near the sea should be a wonderful choice.

Places that you shouldn't miss:
Lisboa, Cascais, Sintra, Ericeira, Peniche, Nazaré, Coimbra, Aveiro, Gaia, Porto.

If you stay longer in Lisboa, then take a day to cross the bridge and head to Costa da Caparica, Setubal or Troia.

For the car rental you should done that a couple of months before. Now the best options are all taken. Anyway, I usually use this site to check for the best prices in all available companies: https://www.kayak.pt/cars (at the bottom page you can change the language).

Enjoy Portugal.
