Goodness - you're in that age range? Would never have guessed.
So, don't feel trapped by me - I'm way out of your league (in your favour) i.e. I'm just a bit into my 50's.

The weird thing is that I still feel about 33, so beware - don't take advice from an obvious psychopath

.
I'm not old, I just grew up with Broadway musicals being played, both at home, and by the highschool theatre club.

Broadway offers a rich bed of metaphors for the human condition, particularly with respect to relationships between men and women.

Captain Sensible scored a #1 hit back in the '80s with his cover of Happy Talk (The original is here.)

I really like nice guys. And clever guys. And witty guys. And sensitive guys. And helpful guys.

Can't stand condescending ba*ta*ds who are constantly putting women down through jokes or back-handed compliments.

Good-looking guys are exactly that...nice to look at. It doesn't mean that I'd want to be their friend.

There are so many good-looking guys around. Where does it end - am pretty overloaded? Prefer the good guys.

I agree, and maybe I can let you ladies into a secret.

Men never complain about women in general. I have never, ever heard a group of men complaining generally that women,

1. take too long making themselves look prettier

2. spend too much money on clothes

3. cannot decide whether to buy the red item or the black item

4. cannot cook a decent meal

etc, etcetera.

I know a good-looking guy. Rather rich as well. Unfortunately, every time he opens his mouth, I want to smack him.

Same here. If the conversation amongst guys was half as bad as many women seem to think it is I wouldn't have much of a social life.

You've never been around a group of Swiss men. Here's one of their typical jokes:

F: Was ist, wenn eine Frau im Wohnzimmer 'rumläuft?
A: Dann ist die Kette zu lang.

Another "urge to smack" moment.

I never quite get why there has to be a war when it comes to equality.

Why does there have to be a constant fight: man against women; women against man, stupid woman against man; stupid man against woman; stupid woman against stupid man.. on and on. And so the real issues of equality, which if addressed correctly would benefit all, are lost in all the noise, the fuss..

Many single male parents suffer in the same way women do and have to manage through the isolation, the lack of support and the on-going affects of poverty. So there's an equality with both genders struggling, trying to cope, dealing with the same obstacles. The only difference may be is that men are often treated kindlier by society if in that situation. Older conditioned women often come to their aid, in the way they do not always help out a female. I have always found that odd.. there's an old ongoing joke my OH and I have at how my mother would, without hesitation, step over my bleeding body with chopped off limbs to hand my hubby a cup of tea. After all he's just done a hard day's work - the poor thing!

Inequality is a mine field.. and the way society is set up and conditioned to favor one sex over another is changing but we need to do more. And yes women are often as much to blame as men as the conditioning has affected us all.

This is one of the best posts ever on EF

Right... Swiss men only have this one single joke, so whenever the feel the need for a chuckle they're forced to trot out this misogynistic one.

Funny how a woman finds it ok to escalate distaste to violence though...

Interesting analysis. I suppose one could read it the way you have, which was not my intent.

It may not have been your intent.

Imagine what response I would have earned if I had simply replied: "Someone needs bitch slapping."

If you think that the problem of inequality is to be solved by defining it purely to be the fault of "the others", that stereotypes or even the suggesting of violence ever improve matters, then with all due respect, I submit that you yourself are part of the problem.

Hold on, there. I never suggested violence was OK and I think you're reading far more into my post than there is.

You and Sbrinz both mentioned you had never heard a group of men talking generally about women who have:

1. take too long making themselves look prettier
2. spend too much money on clothes
3. cannot decide whether to buy the red item or the black item
4. cannot cook a decent meal
etc, etcetera.

I wanted to contradict that statement by showing how I've indeed heard men complain but doing it in other ways, as in telling jokes.

Re: Fellas. Discuss.

Another odd thing I have noticed about some couples over the years is how women refuse to leave men, kids for any length of time on their own cos the men folk can't cook, will not cope/manage - bollox.. and men won't allow women to paint a garden fence, sand down a wall, fill the water wash levels in the car etc. - bollox again. Some genders automatically seek to disempower and insult the other's ability and, with a flutter of the eyelids or a deep chuckle, the projected weakened role is accepted and the conditioning complete. I just don't get it..

Once at the school gate I witnessed a Mum in floods of tears with a clutter of other females around her soothing her because her hubby had to go away for a 2 week work stint, she hated to be on her own.. I genuinely thought someone had died.

Clearly, I shouldn't leave the house; the world confuses me

I suspect you might be putting more into your posts than you are willing to admit to if someone calls you out on it.

Sbrinz used the term "never", I didn't. You also used the same term. Do men sometimes tell derogatory jokes? Yes. Is it the only thing they do? No. Are there any recorded instances of women telling sexist jokes? Would those jokes be somehow acceptable because they are funnier, more realistic, or because all women are actually right in everything they do?

Right, you didn't explicitly suggest violence is OK... "Another "urge to smack" moment." isn't a bad way to get the ball rolling though.

Again... imagine you'd read the "Another "urge to smack" moment." in a post from a guy... would it be harmless then?
