Re: Indians of EF: Some advice re: gifts

I find it interesting that none of EFs Indian members commented (please correct me if wrong).

OK, thanks to everyone for their helpful advice which has completely avoided the question I initially asked.

I'll ask differently. Let's pretend this isn't a gift. Let's ignore how the money is going to get to India. Let's pretend I don't have a bank account.

If an Indian was holding a foreign banknote and wanted to change that banknote in India, is there any advantage to having USD or GBP over CHF? Better exchange rate? Easier to exchange?
no particular issue or advantage with different currency notes. Depending on the amount the exchange agent will ask for the source of the money. unless it is in 1000s you should be fine..

but why not hand over the card and cash in person if he/she comes back to CH soon.

If he knows his way around digital currencies you could send him bitcoins + access key on hard paper. Police dogs won't sniff that and most people don't know what to do with it. If it gets lost you can still access it.

Re: Indians of EF: Some advice re: gifts

send him USD, in hard cash inside a card and send it by registered post in a strong, well sealed envelope. It will reach him - 99.0% probability. USD will be appreciated for his (probably outside India) honeymoon

Another possibility could be a gift of
Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin or Ethereum.

There are a number of ways to give these securely across borders.
