Help - reliable to organize a phone conference?

So someone had the great idea of organizing a phone conference, and so they all looked at me and went, like, "please organize asap".
Just as if this was my single best skill...(not)
[insert obligatory WTF hashtag here...]

Anyhoo....

Does anybody here have experience with these conf-call service providers (pownow, conference calling, etc)? Must be reliable 'coz VIPs, contracts, etc, and if possible, free.

Technicalia: the company here is on VOIP, but not w/ Swisscom.

Heartfelt thanks, as always

Paul

This might not be helpful enough, but Skype? If it works in the academia and work interviews..it should be ok?

i've used powwownow. be aware that for anything you don't pay for, you can get shut out due to capacity constraints. just make sure you send everybody multiple dial-ins as there's always one country where the number doesn't work...

and of course the traditional 20 minute delay because there is always someone that has an issue with the software.

Skype nowadays doesn't allow work emails anymore and you'd have to get Skype for Business.

If you want something reliable and your business is on the line go for a paid solution.

I've used GoToMeeting and Zoom - both very good. It's worth in gold to have a landline dial-in option. It beggars belief how people are incapable to set up their computer audio properly, there's nothing worse than a meeting where people spend 90% of their time in "can you hear me? can you now?"

In any case it all goes the same...

Thank you all for the many excellent points!

Skype - wouldn't want to force anyone to have to install, go through the usual "my headset isn't working" (plugged in incorrectly heh...), etc

Will definitely check out GoToMeeting and Zoom.
I was having a look at conferencecalling.ch... any thoughts or contrasting
no-pinions on this provider?
