Fixing my Miata roof (Cabrio)

Dear friends,

Sadly someone vandalized my car and damaged my roof with a knife...
Any idea where I can find a place for fixing it? I don't want to buy a new roof :-(

Many thanks,
Isaac

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your MX-5 roof. Someone once threw a cigarette out of an apartment window and it landed on my soft top. People with knives (with the exception of chefs) and smokers are arseholes.

I have bought MX-5 accessories here

Just in case you need another Miata, check this out

Re: Fixing my Miata roof (Cabrio)

You can try finding an Autosattler or shop, but if they're worth giving any money to and the damage is anything other than miniscule in a non tensioned part of the roof, then they'll probably suggest replacing the roof.

There are some more or less inexpensive "repair kits"... they're not very good on fabric roofs. Marginally better than a strip of Black Ducktape, just without the white adhesive.

Try one of the carglass/paintless dent services.

Re: Fixing my Miata roof (Cabrio)

on no, sorry to hear! What model do you own?

You might consider different options, if it's an NA model (series 1):
  • stock roof with plastic rear window (with zip, what I always liked)
  • aftermarket roof with glass rear window (heated), which is fixed, no zip (like the NB models have)
  • You could opt for a fabric roof instead of plastic, if you do so make sure it's ''Sonnenland'' quality
  • Avoid the Mazda Dealer in Zurich Oerlikon (just my personal experience)

If you want to have that to be done in Germany, that would be much (huge) less expensive. Labour less expensive...

There is a nice community www.mx-5.net with loads of information, also about roof, prices etc.

Good luck!
