Yup, because all religious instruction is "fundamentalist".

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

I'm from a Jewish background, got the nose to prove it !

I was brought up in with fairly strict Jewish theme, sabbath, Bar Mitz, schooling, etc and when i could break free of this, around 19 years old, i did and it created a lot of tension in the family.

So much so, that when my farther died, over 12 years ago, we were never really reconciled, we tolerated each other for short periods of time, 2 or 3 days at most before it all blew off again. I still haven't cried over his death, nor forgiven him for being so strict with his religion, it upsets me from time to time, but not more than going to all those religious studies all those years ago.

That was why i made my original comment, about parents forcing their children to follow a certain religion with no option of not doing so or changing for something else, just blind devotion to a ingrained family custom with no further thought to waht damages may occur later.

If the OP is hell bent on doing this, then that is their choice, however whether it will be good for the children and family is another matter.

Maybe a less intrusive way of introducing the family religion into family life would be more successful ?
Well said, I was brought up at my Grandmothers on and off for a period of about ten years and got my ass dragged to the kingdom temple thingy hall regularly until one day I saw the light and found.... bullshit! (had not heard that word yet, but it describes my feeling perfectly) I actually trolled the speaker by asking if Jesus was not a demi-god. It did not go well.

There's a formal prohibition against taking the Lord's name in vain. It's the 4th of 10.

In this case, Wittgenstein's "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent." would be more appropriate.

2. I love how people simply make statements like "Switzerland is a secular country". I wonder where you get this stuff from, but it simply isn't true: [..]
As ever so often it depends on your definition of the topic at hand. And as usual, in real life there's so much more than black or white only - secularity of state isn't a binary thing.

If you think "Switzerland" is the federal level and the federal level only, then yes it is indeed very much secular (though somewhat less than 100%). But if you think it means "all of Switzerland [Swiss government]" then the answer is of course it's not.

Which lord? There are so many...

Given their alleged omnipotence, surely the deity so impugned would take issue personally with people?

Re: Religion debate (thread split )

Wouldn't it be great, if we had enough faith that our Faith was so great that we never had to talk about it or pass it on or indoctrinate or save or teach. Wouldn 't it be great if Faith would reach us on its own. Wouldn't it be great if ones Faith came out of their own observation of the miracle of existance and this universe, rather than needing to have it godsplained to us.
That's the kind of Faith l want. My own.

Cringeworthy and I could not watch it, brainwashing and child abuse doesn´t even begin to describe what these creatures are doing with those kids.
