the colour choice for the iPhone X is really limited. Black or grey. How boring can you get
There are 50 shades of each.

The Face Unlock feature is crap on ANY system, it is inherently insecure and I would never use it. But for Apple to now be rolling it out as a cutting edge feature is hilarious. Only the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had battery safety issues, and I never had one so my battery was fine. Besides, it's not like Apple never had any exploding batteries.

The TrueDepth camera projects 30k dots on your face and reads them with an infrared camera.

They bought the company that created Kinect - it's the same MO as with FingerWorks, the company that Apple bought that brought the technology for TouchID.

Why is there btw a diff between the normal model and the AT&T model?
Without even bothering to look at the table (I'm knackered, I'm off to bed), I'm guessing it's GSM vs CDMA...???

With FaceID, cops can just point your phone at your face while they have you in handcuffs then look through your phone without a warrant.

Re: Apple -has another phone

Why did they release the "iPhone 8" when it looks to me more like your typical "s" upgrade. Surely the "iPhone 7s" would be a more appropriate name given the (lack of) improvements on it. No doubt there'll have been some long and exciting marketing meetings to decide that one.

Looking forward to the iPhone NEIN next year.

Samsung is already on the 8th generation, coming to 9th, so for Apple to call the new iPhone would be monumentally stupid. I doubt the marketing meeting lasted longer than 2 minutes, if they even bothered with one.

Do they even care what generation the other rival is on? iPhone X (10) was released at the same time so by this logic Samsung are going to have to come up with an 11th generation phone next.

Samsung are about to announce the S9, and Apple conveniently release an iphone 8 AND an X? Yes Loz, clearly they don't care at all about the generations of their greatest rivals. Makes perfect sense that this would not even slightly be a factor.

I love the way that you write in the way that what you're saying is fact. Since the release of the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy the generation releases have almost never aligned with each other e.g. iPhone 4 released in 2010, Samsung Galaxy S4 released 2013.

At the price the iPhone X will be a status phone. Something one always carries in the hands to show off

It doesn't have to exactly align throughout the history, but there is no doubt that Samsung have been doing their best to keep pace with the iPhone and get ahead for some time now since Android software and the supporting hardware became advanced enough to do so. Consumers now see Samsung as the direct luxury high-end competitor to the iPhone, and that was certainly not always the case. As such, this equalization has meant that generational numbers have taken on more meaning for the manufacturers and the consumers alike and neither will allow themselves to fall far behind in the consumer race... hence why Samsung are now rushing to announce and release the S9 earlier than usual.

Re: Apple -has another phone

I don't think the model number itself is really of such great consequence. There never was an iPhone 2, for example, and Apple brought out the strange iPhone SE after the 6S Plus.

What is important to both Apple and Samsung is to be seen to be bringing out new, supposedly better (than the preceding iteration) models on a frequent basis, and in particular, to try to beat the other in introducing each new model. I don't think anyone cares whether it's the iPhone 9, X or Super-duper, just as long as there's something new. Same goes for Samsung, which usually doesn't introduce an intermediate model (ā la iPhone 4S, 5S, 6S), but has upped its model number by one each time -- so if they produce more than one model in a year, Samsung is bound to end up with phones bearing a higher model number than the equivalent iPhone release.

iPhone models don't have a number when they are to some degree separated from the main product line. The SE was intended as a replacement for people who couldn't deal with the shape of the new iPhone 6 but wanted something faster. Numbers do matter, a great example of this is the PC tech industry which is dominated by it. And I neglected to say earlier that it seems to matter much more to Samsung, who was traditionally playing catch-up, than it does Apple. It's really no coincidence that they are now on a similar numbering system (especially as they weren't before) as Samsung have done that to give the perception that the products are at least directly comparable, and it has for the most part worked.
