Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

So you loved Blade runner eh? trailers to the new bladerunner looked pretty cool eh? gonna go to the cinema eh?

DON'T!!!!

Unless you love Ryan Gosling and want to see him pout for 3 hours, not act, not speak, just pout.

The film is a mess, a running commentary may have actually made this one better as it makes little sense in its current form, they took everything that was great and interesting in the first film and threw it away.

Did you see the new Aliens film? well its on a par with that, Ridly scott seems to be examining his own mortality and questioning the meaning of life, but via the medium of film and his much loved back catalog, in doing so writing an incoherent mess with no characters, I couldn't wait for all the humans to die in alien covenant (so I could leave the cinema) and in Blade runner 2049 the actors just seem to be there so the director can get some arty shots, I wouldn't even be able to tell you their names.

Maybe wait for the director's cut.

I can't see how they could make a half decent film out of this one, it just doesn't have any kind of story, if you've seen the trailers you've seen the whole film already

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

They have done the same as In alien covenant, things just happened for no reason at all, a huge part of the plot, that they couldn't be bothered to link in to anything, or think about, or would ever happen, just happens

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

Alien Convenant was a joke. I fast forwarded a lot of it wondering if it was ever going to get any better. I don't really understand why they made it at all. It was that bad even Fassbender couldn't save it.. and he was brilliant in Prometheus.

Par for the course now to make a dog's dinner out of great movies.

Blade runner: will give it a miss and save myself the pain.

looking on imdb most of the actual reviews are quite damning (reviews made after the film came out, not the 10* reviews made before ???)

If it didn't have the name "blade runner" and harrison ford in it, it would be being panned, I do wonder if the press where shown a different version to the one on release lol.

Rotten Tomatoes = 90%https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/blade_runner_2049/

IMDB = 8.7/10. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1856101/

Usually not the sign of a bad movie... will go and see it this weekend I think.

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

The visuals are stunning, music is pretty good (too basey in places) but there is just no story, and 3 hours of gosling pouting doesn't make up for it, especially if you're a guy.

17yrs old, just watched 'Inside the Third Reich' on tv, developed a huge crush on Rutger Hauer (who bore a strong resemblance to my boyfriend at the time), when Blade Runner came out. Hauer's improvised 'tears in the rain' monologue was stunning. At the time, none of my friends wanted to go and see this film, so I watched it twice at the cinema on my own.

I'm torn because Gosling doesn't do it for me in any way, shape or form. I don't find him the slightest bit attractive, and his acting is bland, unemotional, etc...

Can it be Blade Runner without Roy Batty...?

he doesn't act in this, he just stands and stares, occasionally walks

I'll just watch the original one more time and enjoy all those people complaining that a remake is no fun and the original was much better.

2049 isn't a remake, far from it, it a continuation*

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

Hi,

I saw at the weekend and I enjoyed the film It was nearly 3 hours long but did not feel that long. What is good is it made me think. If anything with the changes in technology some of the themes are more relevant today than they were when the first film was made. It made me think and I am really glad that they did not spoil the film with the trailers, which sadly is so rare these days. I am looking forward to watching it again when I can rent the film to stream it.

I think it helps a lot to have seen the original movie as the significance of some of the events then makes sense.

Is it perfect no, but it is for me definitely one of the best films of the year.

Have fun
Martin

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (no spoilers)

its very hard (ok impossible) to discuss the terrible terrible parts of the film without giving spoilers, I would say huge spoilers but the plot is so transparently thin you'd only miss them if you where asleep.

But lets just leave it at sex scene

yes it looks pretty

no it has no story, or characters

the original had depth, crowds, dirt, realism, in this K is mainly walking around on his own and in nice spankly clean environments, what happened to all the people??? the cities, the hustle and bustle.

Its like a bad video game, go here, do that, can't deviate

The 'story' such as it was could have been told in 60 minutes tops.

Went to see this last night, 160-odd minutes, no breaks and in English....all I can say is the reviews are right and bb2 very much wrong.

I can only assume bb2 went into the wrong screen and watched something else.

I would say that while bb2's review seems quite harsh, I have read not so dissimilar opinions from moviegoers on it. Generally speaking, however, the combination of superlative reviews and divided opinion from moviegoers suggests disappointment
